as salamu alaikum,

welcome aboard! :)

Ubuntu includes OpenOffice.org . Check the Ubuntu Menu -> Office

it can open and save in ms .doc format , aswell as .xls and .ppt.

One thing I recommend you do is first get the msttcorefont package. open terminal (Ubuntu Menu -> Accessories -> Terminal) and enter this command:

sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts

doing that will install the original windows fonts such as Arial, Arial Black, Times New Roman, Sans Serif, etc. Having these fonts will help make sure whatever you type into open office will have the same appearance as the other person who opens the document in windows/msoffice, and vice versa.

I never realised how laggy Windows is until now.
My Laptop is an Intel Pentium 1.74 and has 1.5GB RAM and it went slow on Windows, on Linux it's so quick and convinient.

I only use Vista for itunes.

I only use Vista for itunes.

that's it? well, if u want/need, try looking into WINE, it lets you run iTunes in linux.

what do u need iTunes for anyway? if it's just to manage ur iPod, u can do that natively in linux. But if it's because u buy music off iTunes , then there's really no escaping using iTunes (but u should know music is haram anyway).

amarok is a great piece of software. i think that's like the single best music/naat manager in linux. but it's a QT app, and if u wanna stick to using GTK themes, look into Banshee. that one is just great in that u also can manage ur iPod and it's type cool in my opinion :)

That is nice. I get tired of how fonts look in Ubuntu by default and didn't feel like messing around with it. Of course, I was trying out Hardy alpha 2 and X wouldn't load so... that's a-whole-nother set of problems. I must say the desktop experience is _so_ much better than when I used Mandrake (now Mandriva) 5 or 6 years ago.
