salams.
yesterday morning after closing my fast and praying fajar I went for a nap....a short while latter I felt a presence - something holding me down.
I read my 4 qul (didnt know aytul qursi but I am learning it) but this did not change anything. After what seemed like ages this thing left me.
I have experinced this before but this was way before I started practising.
I am learning aytul qursi and inshaAllah that will help but I really want to know what this THING is..? is it a jinn? or something else?

Salaam, first of all, Mashallah, its good the first thing was that you rememberd Allah SWT.
Check this out though, its really common:

Loads of students get it, probably brought on by anxiety and or stress.

Yeh was just about to post the same ting you beat me to it!
Two of my cousins got this once and straight away thought it was jnn till' my brother re-assured them about the sleep paralysis condition.
Inshallah make du'a and do regular stretches to avoid it Inshallah/

I agree about the sleep paralysis... I used to get that alot. Try to sleep on your side rather than your back - some scientists think its to do with the neck, as it almost always strikes when you sleep on your back.
Also anything that relieves muscle tension in the neck is good.
 - yep, almost definitely sleep paralysis. A fairly common condition - in fact we all experience it every night during the 'dreaming' portion of our sleep when the 'link' between our muscles and our brain is effectively severed to stop us 'acting' out our dreams (muscle atonia)
- but occasionally, things go wrong, and your brain 'paralyses' your muscles whilst you're only half asleep. That's your 'holding down' feeling.
Go and see a doctor if it happens too often, but other than that, nothing to worry about, and nothing whatsoever to do with a jinn.
You'll find that most of the 'conditions' people in the past attributed to jinns have perfectly valid 'organic' origins.

dont sleep on your back or stomach sleep on your side and face to the right, before you go to sleep read surah fatiha the 4 kul's and the 6 kailamah and then blow on you hands and speard around your body and blow to your left and right.
and the last think when you sleep dont be sacred when you go to sleep.

hav u lot ever had 'tight hat syndrome' where ur head feels like its being squeezed, much like the name suggests?
they go wen a person sleeps the soul (ruh) leaves the body and that when it travels arnd then when its time to wake up as the soul comes bck on its way bck the shataan tampers with it with bad thoughts/ideas and thats maybe what ur experincing if its not that then i dnt kno.

Same thing happened to me before as well as other strange occurences. It also usually happens to me if I sleep after praying fajr, probably because unlike the night sleep I neglect to recite quran. Just recite ayatul qursi and the 3 gulhuwa.
I remember reading that Shayateen usually bother muslims who are asleep, even in their dreams. But if he recited quran before they slept then they couldn't touch them.
