As a non-Muslim, I have very few people on this board with whom I agree with. And so I am inclined to rep their posts much more often. But this broken rep system wants me to spread some love around before I rep the same individuals, who are making great posts by the way and I feel they should be rep'd for it.
What if I read a post by some user and rep him and the very next post that I read is from that same user and want to rep that post as well? I should be allowed to do that, right? I mean, why is this system so broken and totalitarian?
Thanks for reading my vent...I feel better already.

The reputation system became next to useless as soon as neg reps was disabled. The reputation system is very faulty, and not fit for purpose.

neg reps were disabled because some users were abusing it. There were active campaigns to zero some users

, Now if only the government realised they weren't fit for purpose too...

Become Muslim and your problem is solved. You'll have more than enough people to spread the love around. That holds true on this forum as well as in real life.

Kind of tells you something, doesn't it :p

Yes, but , back in the day, we could redeem positive rep points for snacks and souvenirs at Ye Olde Ummah Forumme Gyfteshoppe. (It's on the 3rd floor, just past the UmmahForum Library and the Nasheed Sound Stage.)
For as long as it lasted, the positive-rep-points-redemption policy was increasingly helpful to UmmahForum's American participants as the dollar declined against the Euro and Pound.

I agree.
We need to bring balance to the force.
We cannot let the false hope and feel of positive reps continue, it defeats the whole purpose of having a rep system in the first place. Its like a quality control system.
You either show appreciation or you dont, bad posters get rejected, bad posters get to know where they are in the scheme of things. :torture:
The rep wars have subsided now and the good side of the force dominates everywhere, thats totally unfair, we need a middle way.

well since neg reps are removed i'll just explain positive reps.
Your rep power is 17, you start with 1 and the maximum is 50 (like i have), if i rep you then your rep points will go up by 50, so if i repped you now then your rep would be 1742 (from 1692), and if you repped me then mine would go up by 17, from 10304 to 10321, and as you get more rep points your rep power will increase, i think when you reach 5000- then your rep points will be 50.
Now blank reps since negs we removed.
If you clikc to rep someone and you click "disapprove" then you'll neither give that person any rep nor will you take any away, that blank rep will show as a gray block in your user cp, unlike positive ones which is green.
ah what does it matter i might as well mention neg reps.
If you neg rep someone (which doesn't exist now, it used to be in place of the blank reps) then you'd take away their rep, it will be equal to half of yoru rep power, i your rep power was 20 then you'd take 10 rep points away, and that neg rep would show as a red block in your user cp.
that's the types of reps.
Bear in mind that 50 rep power is the maximum, but your rep points has no limit, like mine is now, when i had 5000 i had 50 rep points, i have over one hundred thousand rep points now but still only 50 rep power.
Now about spreading rep around.
You have to rep 6 people before you can rep the same person again, so if you rep anna now, and want to rep her again then you have to rep 6 other people then only will you be able to rep her, admins on the other hand dont have this limit, they can rep as much as they want, and admins can also just add thousands of rep to a persons account without having to be repped because they control the repping maching.
Now about the rep limit.
I'm not completely sure what the exact rep limit per day is, some days it used to be 6 reps, some days 5 etc, but to be on the safe side i'd say 5-6 reps a day you can give, after 24 hours your rep will be refilled, but remember that doesn't mean all your rep comes back at one, each rep will only come back 24 hours later, so if you used it all up at one then it will all come back at once, but if you used it up with hours in between then it will come back with hours in between.
That more or less covers the chapter on repping.

Before our whole "rep economy" was destroyed, you could redeem 15 positive rep points for a grilled cheese sandwich and an apple at Ye Olde Ummah Forumme Gyfteshoppe.
Those were the days!
The neg rep sounds interesting.
I wasn't around during this stage. How about having two separate scores, one positive and one negative. That way people on rep score of 0 wont be same as those who have a positive rep of 50 and neg rep of 50. It would also allow quantification of neg reps unlike the system now.
We have to seriously consider what the purpose of rep is. It should really give the poster an idea of how they fair with fellow ummah-ees and also an idea of the poster to others, and I think a dual point system is the best way to do this. The old system made non-posters the same as contraversial posters, and the current system doesn't quantify neg reps. The proposed rep system could have all the negative comments after the positive ones in red on the USER CP screen.

Back in the days it was very easily to tell if someone talks BS, their Rep points would be in the negative.

don't tell me you know whatever language there speaking aswell?! that's 5 languages you know then (or at least how much I've counted)
as for neg reps, yeah i think they should be put in place again, otherwise we will think everyone is good and worth reading their posts!

they're speaking pashtu.
yeah the rep system is redundant now with only positive reps, there must always be a balance in things.
