so im signed into msn messenger... and all of a sudden this message goes "ping" like when u receive an email, but this one says "you are signed into msn on a different computer, click here to sign in again" or something along those lines. and then i see that i am actually signed out of messenger! y is this happening? :nervous:

does someone somehow know my password? (which is impossible) even my brothers account, i see a ping message that he's signed in but its impossible because he's in his room and the computer is in my room (and obviously im the one using it!)

safest thing to do for now is change ur password..

and when ur changing passwords copy and paste letters using the mouse and right clicking..dont type on the keyboard...

after u change passwords like that, run virus checking software...

erm maybe sumone more knowledgable can advise more insha'Allah :o

that's so, incase there's a keylogger on ur pc, then anything you type via keyboard will be recorded. therefore, ibn suleman said to copy/paste letters instead, so that those letters aren't recorded by the keylogger.

though it can still be logged via other means...but do it as the brother recommended for ur sake.

but there is another possiblity. if u use MSN via your cell phone/mobile, then that account may be logged in so u are getting that. also have u used MSN some other place? maybe u left that thing signed in...

as salamu alaikum

ok... but here's the thing... if i was signed into another computer, how long would i be signed in before u know i get automatically signed out? becasue this pinging has been happening for a few days now. i even get offline messages from my bro's msn of just random links.

i was thinking, does it have anything to do with my wireless connection? its unsecured. but my uncle said he's set it up so that my computr is the only one that can access our wireless network.

Don't use IE as your primary browser, use Firefox, it is much more safe and secure, and prevents many activex malware from messing with your PC:
http://www.mozilla.org/

Download and install ALL of these programs (I assume you have an anti-virus installed, if not, then install AVG Free edition):

AVG Free anti-virus. Excellent and free anti-virus which does the job equally as well as commercial anti-virus programs:
http://free.grisoft.com/

CCleaner (use this program every time you finish surfing the internet, it cleans you PC far more than "Disk Cleanup" which is preinstalled with Windows XP):
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/

Comodo Firewall (the best firewall out at the moment):
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Windows Defender (this stops spyware from loading on to your PC in the first place):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en&mg_id=10134

Spyware Blaster (this secures your browser from being hijacked by spyware and adware, it also prevents you from visiting sites which are known to infect you the moment you visit them):
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

Spybot S&D:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
It's important that you download all of these, as a single program by itself cannot protect you against all threats, so these programs compliment each other very well. Also, they do not waste much memory. Remember to scan your PC as soon as you download them.

as salamu alaikum,

i'm not totally sure but I would imagine they do. the reason is because, notice that when you have the on-screen keyboard open, and you press a key on the keyboard, the on-screen keyboard picks it up. this tells me that the program is a two-way program, it will emulate a real keyboard for INPUT, but when u press a key on ur real keyboard, it picks up what u typed thus OUTPUT. i imagine keyloggers would be smart enough to pick that up then....

also another thing: many keyloggers these days, record every text on the screen. so that's something else to worry about.

maybe if the sister signed into MSN via another PC that's not infected and then changes her password, it would be best. but then she could never log into MSN with the new password or the keylogger will pick it up again (see the problem?).

so bottomline: she has to get rid of the keylogger IF it's present in the system.

another thing...it's possible her windows is corrupt and whenever she signs into MSN, things get sent twice. so if she signs into MSN messenger LIVE, msn messenger sends a delayed message again. but that's just speculation.

i would say the sister needs to clean the PC, ergardless of the case.

No, but make sure your Norton anti-virus is regularly kept up-to-date. If your subscription has ran out and you don't want to pay more, then get a free anti-virus like AVG or Avast.
