no - it is not haram to drink while standing up. it's just that it is sunnah to drink water while sitting down because thats what the prophet used to do.

not haram!

hope it helps!

its better for your digestion to eat and drink sitting down, perhaps this is why the Prophet :saw: did this. Allahu alim.

It's not Haraam but it is indeed a sunnah to sit and drink water. It should also be said that some things are made Haraam so quickly but we need to remember that sometimes a thing may be disliked or it may not be a sunnah, although-yes we should always do whats better but we should be careful of labelling things as Haraam

The Prophet Ordered us to drink sitting down, but he was seen drinking standing sometimes, but the his orders come before his actions, so it's better to drinking sitting down, but there is no problem if you drinking standing up sometimes..

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate
1. It is somewhat disliked to drink in one gulp, and it is also disliked to blow into one’s drink. [Barkawi, al-Tariqa al-Muhammadiyya, 4.107]
Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) related that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,
“Do not drink in one [gulp] like a camel. Rather, drink in two or three [sips]. Pronounce the name of Allah when you drink, and thank Allah when you are finished.” [Tirmidhi]
Abu Qatada al-Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) related that the Beloved of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,
“If you drink, do not blow into your cup.” [Bukhari and Muslim]
Both these prohibitions relate to proper manners, and thus indicate that these matters are improper and somewhat disliked (makruh tanzihan), though not sinful.
2. Among the Prophetic sunnas related to drinking are:
a) Beginning in the name of Allah, by saying Bismillah or Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem. Some extended this to every sip;
b) Drinking with one’s right hand, because it is disliked to drink with one’s left hand unless there is a genuine excuse;
c) Drinking between three breaths;
d) Not breathing into one’s drink;
e) Not drinking while standing;
f) Drinking in sips rather than gulps, for the latter is disliked;
g) Not drinking excessively. The sunna is to eat and drink in moderation, such that it does not lead to harm or laziness that prevents one from worship.
h) Praising Allah after drinking, by saying Alhamdulillah (‘All praise is to Allah’), or any of the sunna invocations after drinking, such as Alhamdu liLlahi lLadhi at`amana wa saqana wa ja`alana muslimeen]
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
‘All praise is to Allah who has fed us and given us drink, and made us of the Muslims.’
[al-Mawsu`a al-Fiqhiyya al-Kuwaitiyya]
And Allah alone gives success.

Al-Jawaab Billaahi at-Taufeeq (the answer with Allah's guidance)

The Holy Prophet, Hadhrat Muhammad-ur Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "None of you should drink water while standing; and if anyone forgets, he must vomit." (Muslim)

However, the Holy Prophet, Hadhrat Muhammad-ur Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) and His Sahaabahs (Ridhwaanullaahi Alayhim Ajma'een) would drink the water of Zamzam whilst standing up.

but you would loose "easy to get" reward by not acting upon a sunnah of our prophet pbuh. so imagine all those times you drink in just 1 year standing up. those could all be rewards!!! rewards for doing something you need, drinking water...

islam is amazing! :D
