I'm so proud of myself! I'm making such good progess being Muslim! :D

I was flying back home for Thanksgiving the other day, and I walk through security. I have a backpack full of clothes and toiletries, along with my Qu'ran. The security lady comes up to me and is like "random security check. We need to search your bag" or something like that.

However, I was sweating bullets because of my Qu'ran and kufi were in the backpack and I had no idea how they would react if they saw that, but they searched my bag without seeing the Qu'ran.

But yeah, isn't it exciting?

Well, I was talking with some brothers about I was flying during Thanksgiving and I was joking that I would be randomly searched or something. So then when I was searched, I was like "[removed], I was right"

In a way, it was a love-hate feeling.

Trust me it is saddening when done in a Muslim country so that they can please their non-Muslim commuters. Makes me so angry! And then they give you a salaam on the hush-hush when none of them are looking. May Allah reward my dad Jannah he never says a thing, so patient masha allah he can see no evil in a Muslim

Or maybe they saw the Qur'an and just didn't care.

I've been screened at my local airport, too.

And I know white, Americans who have been searched. it happens. There is an ex-house of representative that is actually on the watch list because his name happens to be the same as someone else they are looking for.

When us non muslims are saying we got searched, we *are* talking about the 'random extra security screening'.

And yes, I've had it happen to me.

Or maybe we're lying just to keep you from seeing that you really are always singled out for racist scrutiny.

Don't worry even if you have a Qur'an its not a big deal, like it was said its not illegal or anything i bet so many people take it in the hand luggage rather than keeping it in the suitcase to get thrown here n there.
As long as they are polite when they search u its okay, and don't delay soo long and make u miss ur flight - which i have heard of some people doing for spite, that is out of order!
but if they search quick n polite just allow it innit. Although one tip if u dress a bit more smartly going thru the airport security they bother u alot less, from what people have said.
But also yes u know like some non muslims have said, its not always just for racism that they check, and they dont check only Muslims, my bro got himself on some kind of an alert list cos he kept flying in and out of america by himself on short trips very frequently, so he got flagged up for "suspicious behaviour" and got stopped n put into a security room to wait and have extra checks everytime he travelled :smack: i think he is off that now :)

It actually almost is. It already is illegal to speak Arabic on a plane. I'm sure bringing a Qu'ran is up there with speaking Arabic and having a beard

Come now. Our family has spoken in Arabic on many domestic and overseas flights for the past 30 years or so. No one has made a peep about it. It is NOT illegal to speak Arabic on airplanes in the West.
There is a difference between arousing the suspicion of an ignoramous and actually breaking the law.

We have come to expect a pat down and a peek inside our luggage. Big deal.

Exactly, if you dress like an idiot, I'd stop you if I was a police man. It's similar to many youngsters of Afro-Caribbean and Asian origin complaining about being stopped on the streets of London. They fail to realise that the common element there isn't their skin colour but how they're dressed, if they dressed smartly, they wouldn't get stopped nearly as much.

Dress like a lout, expect to be treated like one.

Having said that, I know a middle-aged English lady who always gets stopped at airports, and searched. Probably because they know she won't have anything on her, and they can get their searching 'quota' over with quickly.

men (or women) driving shiny big cars are acting like idiots in the first place :p

Chances are those cars have strongly tinted windows, and rap blasting out from it (apparently some people like to call it music - frankly a rutting deer sounds more musical)

I'm a fat and very old non-Muslim and I get stopped often for "random" searches and "secondary inspection" at airports in the U.S. and abroad.

For some odd reason, my leaving Morocco was in particular problematic. I was "patted down" three times and my carry-on luggage was searched twice.

(When leaving Israel, airport security for some reason believed that a very elderly woman standing behind me was my mother. For some weird reason, Israeli airport security had a difficult time believing me when I said that the woman wasn't my mother, that I'd never seen the woman before in my life. [WHO WAS THIS WOMAN??? I still don't know.] At any rate, this confusion led to my being pulled aside and questioned, literally, for twenty minutes as to the nature of my visit to Israel.)

Cool, I never get searched! :D Sail through security like I'm a VIP. ;) (well, not really!)

Quran in the bag? Hmm, did you take it out? You know, for when the bag gets thrown around in the X ray machine? Personally I'd never put a Quran anywhere except my hands or a shelf.

My uncle who is a doctor from england was visitng Chicago two summers back and they were checking him and his luggage for more than a hour. He got ****ed off and said "You guys need another 911 to happen" or something a long those lines. They sent him back to england and banned him from going to the states. Just act normal, remember your innocent so there's nothing to worry about

HAhaha. This happens to me all the time 'cause of my hijab. Your lucky that they cant really recognize you as a muslim. Whenever I travel they actually put an xxx on the corner of my ticket which means "triple security" I get the full body search and everything. Whenever they find something islamic in my bag I just smile, somehow they get ticked when I do that....I probably should'nt do that.... or they are scared to death of me.haha

I'm glad the US Authorities didn't take this matter in other ways. Your uncle could have been apprehended and interrogated. Please advice him to practice patience. Thousands of people died in 9/11. Regardless of whatever, no one deserves a tragedy like that. The least we could do is show some respect.
