I don't think he wore a turban. I'll get back to you on that one insha allah with evidence!

Yes he would oil his hair also. He would wear a turban and put the hat/ topi/ cloth etc on his head and then wrap the 'imaamah (turban) over it.
EDIT: Not sure if you can call it sunnah (i.e. mustahabb) though.
Let's be serious guys, answer the bros question properly and don't start some free mixing rambling. This shouldn't happen :jkk:
Sorry if i sound harsh (please forgive me), just general brotherly naseeha.

You shouldn't wash it every day. If you have oily hair try for ever 2 to 3 days. If you have dry hair then you can go without washing your hair for a week, sometimes even 2.
Eating healthier and avoiding stress helps. Drinking milk helps too, and I read somewhere (I can't find where) that taking some milk and putting it on your hair is good.
Trim the ends every 3-4 months.
Brush your hair.

Don't worry if the hair falling out is not much, it is normal for dead hair to fall out every day, if your hair didn't fall out at all, I would say that you were in your 2nd trimester of pregnancy lol! :D
Re: greasy hair, the more you wash your hair, the greasier it will get. Your scalp has its own natural oils to protect it, and washing, especially with shampoos and consitioners washes away those oils, so when you feel 'grease' it is actaully your scalp trying to readdress the natural oiliness of the scalp.
My advice, would be to wash your hair with shampooo or whatever product you use ONCE a wek. If you HAVE to wash your hair more in a week, then use plain water. Try not to wash your hair more than 3 times a week in total, and try to keep it covered as much as you can (hijab/ hat etc)
It will begin to feel very greasy lol :p Because you need to give the scalp time to find its balance once again, but give it a couple of weeks, and ou will begin to notice that after you wash your hair, it is not greasy at all, and always feels soft, clean and silky :inlove:
Re: shampoos, try to use something as natural as possible, I would highly recommend the shampoo bars from Lush :D Especially Hybrid and Squeeky Green.

What about not using shampoo or anything on your hair, just wash it with water. Is that bad?

Not really, but eventually you do get build up of everyday pollution and rubbish in your hair, so its good to use something to clean it regularly.

No, no. Just not wash their hair. You can take a shower/bath every day but you don't need to wash your hair that much or it will get damaged, or more oily depending on the type of hair you have.

Good advice. I've grown my hair thrice... The first two times i trimmed it as it grew but this time it looks best and i haven't trimmed it for a while now. Just leave it to grow without trimming and it should look good InshaALLAH... Unless u have split ends or something *sticky tongue out* Remember the Islamic restrictions on men's hair length.

You must have a lot of patience. I have thick hair too and wash it every week because it's also dry and would not have the patience to do it every day. It takes 2 hours just to comb through and it's such a hassle.

tis a long hard road i can tell you that.
I grew my hair for about 1 1/2 or 2 years. If i pulled down my face it touched my chin.
Eventually cut it off for my engagement :D
Started growing it again, only bit i cant stand is when long hair grows over my ears, end up trimming that away.
Agree on the shampoo bit.
I shower twice daily, morning and before bed. shampoo once or twice a week.

People were talking rubbish in this thread. It wasnt even off topic lol. I oil my hair every week. The shampoo bit if i dont shampoo my hair sticks together. Keeping long hair is so hard. Dont know how girls can manage it.

Eat lots of protein and take a Vitamin B complex supplement. Don't straighten / blow dry your hair daily.
Massage your scalp one a week with a hot oil treatment, perhaps home made with mustard oil/olive oil/coconut oil. Add a few drops of rosemary oil and eucalyptus oil to stimulate circulation.

Wow! Awesome advice....is it true that some people just don't have the LONG HAIR Gene? I mean I'm indian and if I don't like groom my hair, it just goes wild and its THICK and like its not curly but very puffy! and it looks .... ridiculous! I wash my hair about 3-4 times a week with shampoo...I guess it's not good ? If i don't use shampoo and just use plain water, the hair gets greasier and it just doesn't feel right... :S Would you recommend using a straightener?
I have straight long hair. I have relatively no problem keeping it in good condition. I just wash it on most days with normal shampoo. Maybe I am lucky.

You gotta have patience when it's growing, i just go to my hair stylist and he treams accordingly. Showeing with long hair is like ughhh, might shave it all off after i'm bored, go with the clean sleak look which i had back in high school.
Important thing is it has to grow proper and you have to go to a good stylist.

I currently have my hair to my shoulders (it used to be longer), it took two years to get where I wanted to get. It takes patience. I used coconut oil, never cut my hair (that is the key), and during the summer time because of the heat, hair grows more. Remember it grows 1/4 of a inch every month. During summertime, go outside play some sports or just sit in the sun because the sun secretes the oil in the hair because of the sweat so it grows more. Also, leave-in conditioner works wonders.

just trim its ends like after every 3 months,,,whashing it every 2 days is not working 4 me n i wash it every day as u in the morning,,,also washing without shampoo it just make it worse,,,brushing it too often makes it oily sooner cuse u just activate the enzimes while brushing n u extend the oil frm the root to the ends,,,
i personally use a natural shampoo with nettle extract which stimulates hair growth, cleans well the hair n head skin n also it reduce the oily secretion,,,
i use also masks with olive oil n with bamboo extract,,,r very good 4 healthy, good looking, smooth n silky hair,,,
i gave advice like 4 a sis but u r a bro,,,so do wht is proper 4 u,,i think u do not need so long hair n washing it every day is easy,,,ur hair is shorter then our,,,,so just use a good shampoo as i told,,,

Whats the difference between GHD's and a Straightner? is there any difference?
The difference between GHD straighteners and the rest is that they do exactly what it says on the box they actually heat up to the temperature they say they do, they make your hair look as straight and as good as you want it to be. I have used other straighteners with ceramic coating but the surfaces scratch much easier and once this happens when you slide them down your hair all they do is create static and its not a good look. Basically you get what you pay for QUALITY.

tips for long hair;
keep it braided, this way it doesnt get everywhere when your cooking. becareful with all those hair clips and rubberbands, they tend to pull your hair out and cause headaches too
dont use to many products on your hair, they contain to many bad chemicals. all you really need is a mild baby shampoo or better yet use henna and olive oil...natural/organic stuff
if your a swimmer, try putting conditioner in your hair prior to swimming and wear a cap to keep your hair protected from chlorine
Massage scalp with oil a few times a week. Its supposed to aid in blood circulation, thus leading to healthy, shiny hair. So long as you don't mind being a bit smelly for the sake of healthy hair - oil is the way to go

I've already explained why I use straighteners. I don't think i'm allowed to comment on all the brothers/men that use straighteners. Oh, and you mention the word g-a-y in your post. I think your being very stereotypical, not all g-a-y men use straighteners (some are bold and therefore cannot straighten their hair, LOL). I'm happy with my hair even if it isn't straightened. I think we should cut the talk about straighteners. Let's stick to OIL!!!!
I put baby oil in my hair...sometimes! The result is an awesome look. My hair looks really shiny and I love it when it looks shiny! <<< talking like a kid. :o

I used the word gay because it is common practice for homosexuals to imitate women and straightening hair, wearing make up any form of extreme beautifying is associated with women.
In addition, I hate having to see men from behind and them looking like women because their hair is so beautified that even women would die for it.
Example, you wouldnt wanna see a woman with a beard, I dont wanna see men with women's hair
Straightners etc were initilly created for women.
The amount of time and dedication spent doing these rituals (straightnening hair) increases ones vanity and consiousness of their hair...there is no need for this...just like there isn't for women either. Yes to please her husband in her own home a woman will make an effort and this is allowed. But I think it's absolutely ridiculous women waking up hours earlier to straighten hair every single day....you could use that time so much more efficiently
Inshallah just massage your scalp and condition it with olive oil as you have said and it will be straight or smooth naturally and this is the best look. straightned hair looks pretty flat and in the long term is damaging because it's unnatural.
persoal opinion: slightly curly/naturally wavy hair is beautiful :o

yes that is the purpose of the straightner
but no need for it with men. men should not be obesessed with self image and vanity
yes we must be clean, smart and modest. No need to go overboard

I saw a guy the other day in university, don't think he was homosexual, but this is how he was dressed:
> slim fitting trousers
> slim fitting short t shirt
> he had hair upto his ear lobes and the hair had been strightened but the ends curled...like you could see they were done using a tong becuse they were barrel curls and the front of his hair had a side partin and the majority of hair parted was curled to come up
abit of a italian cassanova style look
but seriously...toooooo feminine and he had a bit of a 'walk' too
I'm sure when men put all this effort into their look, when they're outside they become more aware of it...and naturally they will start acting feminine too because eg smooth hair..feels niice...it looks like a womans hair...and the guys probably putting his hand through his hair feeling it 'oo its so smooth' and he'll look so feminine...
and this might affect his behaviour in future...he will become more and more obsessed...he will start buying more products for his hair...one thing leads to another...
seriously, if you made a poll you will find most muslimahs would prefer their husbands to have manly hair...not women-like...They want their protectors and mehram to look like THAT (a protector) not like a wimpy oo la la I have smooth hair and love it type

Wow you really are a case! I'm usually a challenger but your slating my looks left, right and centre! Ok, slim-fit jeans, i wear them (at least i'm honest) - SOMETIMES!!!! People have told me they look "g-a-y" so that has put me off a little. But i can assure you i do not look or feel like a woman whenever i straighten my hair or where skinny jeans. NEVER! In fact i'm surprised at how dominating you women are. If skinny jeans and straighteners are for women then what's left for men? I think the only solution would be to exterminate all straighteners and things that cause conflict (i.e what a man cannot have a woman cannot have as well). :D
Bdway, your posts are true in some respect. So i'm not saying i'm against your posts 100% ;)

Question: Would you suggest to get the hair cut short and use gel? That would imitating the kuffar too, some peoples hair naturally is STRAIGHT, yes guys. My friends hair is like that, he has the typical WHITE boy surfer hair, the thing thats going on now a days. He doesn't cover one eye with it like a emo kid. He is muslim but pretty white (looking). Ok, straighteners are pretty weird for guys to be using I agree. What is manly hair anyways?
RoadWarrior
25-04-08, 09:39 PM
whatever your hair is naturally, keep it that way. Yes there are grooming methods like combing to make you look neat and that is good.
mashallah for your friend if he has naturally straight hair
but I think naturally curly or wavy hair is beautiful too, mashallah.
we agree on the one thing- straightners for men is extreme
in my opinion on gel- I think it is useless, makes hair very dirty and is not healthy for the hair. Olive oil or other natural oils are best for any grooming.
gel is just a product of consumerism and makes hair look sticky, greasy and dirty...

I know, i've heard about mans with long hair who straighten it, personally i think its vain nufin else well make sure you use a heat protection spray or you'll be causin damage to your locks ok bro.
GHD's are the best! I'm looking for a cheap one. Do you know where i can buy a cheap one from?
Not much chance of gettin it cheap, 2 years ago price of the standard ghd’s was £80 and now oddly the same type are priced from £90-£120 anyways you could do a search on the net, might get lucky.
Whats the difference between GHD's and a Straightner? is there any difference?
Yes bro they’re meant to remove the frizz and static from your hair leavin it sleeker than other straighteners and they cause less damage, worth every penny.

Yeah same. Been growing it for some time. It's got to the stage where the sides are growing a lot more quicker than the front and back. I use olive oil to keep it healthy and also to look more presentable, especially when my beard is quite scruffy and doesn't straighten easily even after applying some oil(can't cut it yet) giving me the "hobo" look as stated by my bros :S

Ok the jokes didnt turn out well but talking about oils do you think we should apply oil daily?
Miss-Neurofen
19-06-08, 07:09 AM
Well i dont... i apply once or twice a week max, but thats very rare... you do not need to apply each day, once or twice a week should really suffice, but it is essential that u let your scalp absorb the oil, so naturally that would mean having to keep your hair oily for a good few hours, preferably over night (which is what i do)... Just make sure you cover your pillow with a towel or something though, unless you're perfectly fine with having a smelly and oily pillow :p

Wash / dry your hair gently, and also rub oil softly in your hair too Insha'ALLAH. You can also try shaving your hair off and rubbing oil into your scalp lightly which will thicken the hairs Insha'ALLAH. I think blood flow to the scalp encourages hair growth Insha'ALLAH so massage your head lightly without pulling on any hairs. Remember i think hair is made from protein so take this and other useful things, and also sleep on time aswell as trying not to stress too much Insha'ALLAH... :)

Your completely welcome dear brother in Islam. I forgot to mention, remember to do dua regularly and also read your Ayat AL Qursi in the morning and in the night. Its very usefull to recite 3 of the following (4 times each):
Surah An Naas
Surah AL Falaq
Surah AL Ikhlaas
Surah AL Kafiroon
Read these in the morning and in the night, so that they protect you from harm, especially evil eye Insha'ALLAH. Have you ever tried black seed oil? You can take some of that externally (always apply gently as to not pull out roots) or internally Insha'ALLAH... :)

My secret to having long hair consists of two techniques.
1.) Not cutting it.
2.) Tucking it into the back of my jacket when riding the bike.
That is all.

Please don't go all stereotypical on me, I do hate them. Men can cook as well, just like women can work (in an Islamic environment of course). :freedom:
Just 'cause you don't cook doesn't make you fat. Eating too much and lack of exercise does, and there are other forms of exercise I can assure you.

Conditioner shouldn't be used every time you wash your hair. Like once a week or something, it's to reduce static on the hair, and it just makes it softer and doesn't make the hair so frizzy.

My hair was cut not too long back so it's not really long right now, when you say you tuck it in your jacket, how long must your hair be to do that?

You need to massage your head/hair with an oil (Baby oil is good as is olive oil) like the night before or couple hours before washing it... and don't dye it or put soo much chemicals onto it.

My hair is actually dark brown, it's thin and it's not long at the moment, if i let it down it will only reach beneath my eyes.
I'm so big and tall that i can talk with 13 year olds and someone would mistake me for one (minus the beard, that's the only thing that gives me away), i'm such a heavyweight wrestler that i can jump on this (http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11246140/Egg_Trays_Egg_Carton_Apple_Tray_Egg_Box_Fruit_Tray .jpg) and not break it, and my arms are so big that i can wear gloves i wore when i was 12 years old.
It's amusing to see what sort of images peoples minds conjure up about a person :rotfl:

tis a long hard road i can tell you that.
I shower twice daily, morning and before bed. shampoo once or twice a week.
hmmm we seem to have a lot in common.
Yeah when the hair reaches the ears and takes soooo long to grow over it, can be a bit tedious, i had so many occasssions where i just felt like having a hair cut.

I do a warm oil (olive, burdock or agrimony) massage at least once a week. It has the following benefits:
- Lubricates and conditions the scalp, helping to prevent flakes and dry scalp without the use of harsh chemical shampoos.
- Helps enhance blood circulation in the head and neck area. When the scalp is “tight” from stress, circulation and hair growth are impeded.
- Helps relax the scalp and increase pliability.
- Helps strengthen the roots of the hair and nourishes the hair-shafts, promoting new hair growth and strengthening current hair.
- Helps soften and condition the hair, making it more manageable.
- Spreads the natural oils of the hair, increasing hair luster and vibrancy.
- Helps protect hair from the damaging effects of the sun and harsh weather by improving resiliency over time.
- Is replenishing and rejuvenating for dry, damaged hair, and helps prevent excessive brittleness and split-ends.
When I'm done with massage, I put shower cap on and tie a headscarf (preferably wool) for 1-2 hours.
Try not to put hair in a pony tail. Make a braid more often.
the stage where it's not really long but it's growing it terrible. I think it is the 5-8 month stage depending on how long your hair was when you started growing it out. It looks like a mullet. It is all over your face and everything but not long enough to brush behind your ear. Terrible. But in a couple months it gets better and better. Before you know it, it becomes almost 3 years and your hair is a little past your shoulders and everyone is yelling at you to shave and cut your hair because you look like a homeless person. Then there is the split end issue. Those should be taken care of occaisonally. They say get a trim every 3 month. I say don't. It's a scam. Your hair progress will slow down and you will be impatient.

Your sentence implies that you're a baldie and it's a miracle that your hair is actually growing.
Saying "My hair is growing remarkably" would make more sense.
