Ethyl alcohol is frequently used in perfumes. I don't think there is anything wrong with using it since you are not ingesting it.
It is to be noted that alcohol is frequently used in medications, especially cough syrups.
Read this post and then make your own mind up (best best to ask a scholar), but keeping in mind that even the tiniest drop of alcohol beverage is haraam.

When i was a kid in the sixties about 8 years old, I had a bad fever and Mom was at work ... Dad gave me a snifter of brandy with a big dollop of honey and put me in a hot steamy bath to sweat it out ... slept like a baby ... I was fine the next day ... "Ye Olde Irish Medicine" ... my first "buzz" ... Mom never found out ...

Alcohol in Perfumes
http://www.sunnipath.com/images/Q_Image.jpg
Does anyone know if its permissible to use perfumes and deodorants that have alcohol content in the Shafii Madhab?

In the Hanafi school, it would be permitted, according to the position on which fatwa is given. However, it would be from taqwa to try to avoid it wherever reasonably possible.
For the Shafi`i position, I don't know.

Perfume that contain Alcohol
http://www.sunnipath.com/images/Q_Image.jpgIs it permissible to use perfumes that contain alcohol in the Hanafi madhab? Is there a difference of opinion regarding this?

Mufti Taqi Uthmani has said that it is permissible. Yes there is a difference of opinion on this and here in South Africa we have the Majlisul Ulama (which incidentally is not a group of Ulama but merely one `alim Maulana A. S. Desai) who vehemently oppose this.

Aatar never kicks with formal wear bro. I only use Aatar before going to masjid. Otherwise its Good Life or Cool Water by Davidoff at office, Clinique Happy or Thierry Mugler Angel If I'm out with friends and Azzaro Chrome or Givenchy PI if I'm attending a party. What can I say? I'm a perfume buff!
