I've been going to Yoga for a while, and I have to recommend it for everyone, irregardless of age, gender or physical body weight.

Alas, in the last case however, I would recommend you tone your body (circuit training) before venturing to a Yoga mat.

Don't think you're "too tough" to do Yoga. It's extremely challenging & painful, but it's very rewarding in the end. I can maintain a far better balance than before, and some moves which I thought were impossible for me... I am somehow managing to do now.

One word of advice to the men: buy a Yoga mata couple of weeks before training. I forgot to buy one and I'm stuck with a pink one offered to me by the instructor.

Yoga sounds nice... and Pilates... But I'd rather do Tai Chi :)

:rotfl: ...

I do about 60 minutes a week ... not including breathing exercises ... I've lost 20 pounds in 6 months ... I'm at my ideal weight, have no back pain, and sleep like baby at night ...

Do you practice any meditation? ...

I've seen crowds of people do Tai Chi. Nice people. Many of the stances are good for balance. However, you can get alot more through Yoga, as it requires a great deal of flexibility and endurance to maintain those nasty positions.

That's good. The guy beside me has horrifying back pain. He's basically a hunchback because of his work, carrying extreme loads.

No, I've never done meditation. But does sipping tea, reading Rumi & having Pavarotti music in the background count?

There are two types of Yoga, the first is the ancient Indian Yoga and the other is a modern secular one. The first one includes philosophy and spiritual experiences (like union with God), it is similar to Zen. The second one is just about bringing harmony and balance to your life by shaping the body and relieving pain and stress

Tell him about yoga and let him know that it really works ...

He is in my Yoga class, hence 'beside me.'

The guy can only barely do some of the techniques. I thik a chiropractor is what he needs.

Not at all. In fact, it's good to start with before hitting the gym or starting a martial arts course.

Coincidentally, our Yoga teacher is also the jujitsu master. Think about it.

yoga is haraam to do for muslims...

Sure it is.

No. It isn't.

Yoga is exercise. Meditation however, is a different matter.

What's wrong with meditation? My mom used to say the same thing, that meditation was wrong. And, she's Christian.

Yoga is too slow.. not so patient with that type of stuff. Prefer something faster and less tangled up
