Assalam o Allaikum
I have this huge collection of Arabic and English Nasheeds in which I don't even remember where I got them from. So in fear of them being illegal(pirated) I'm deciding to delete them all.
If any brothers or sisters have a legit site it would be really appreciated(prefer English Nasheeds). I would buy them but I'm not a heavy nasheed listener and would rather spend my time listening to lectures and reading books. However, you can't always be serious and need some sort of halal entertainment in a meantime.

Brother, i am in the same sort of confusion myself. A few months back i developed a fervent interest in islamic songs and began to download nasheeds from various sites. i have a pretty big collection now and i dont know if those sites respected copyright issues. so im worried whether it is ok (halal) for me to listen to these or not. tried to find an answer on the net but in vain. i shall be grateful if any of the learned members could shed light on this troublesome matter.

can it really be haram?
what if you dont know who the artist is? or where to purchase the real thing from?

Exactly what i was thinking. people may have the problems of availibility of cds and the likes. anyway i dont understand the purpose of copyright on islamic stuff. isnt the whole idea of singing a nasheed, instead of a song, done for the sake of da'wah? and its not like these artisits are not making enought money to feed their families. they have live performances for which they get paid no meagre amounts, i'm sure... i dont see why they should stop people from coming to islamic songs by demanding royalty. after all, the whole purpose is to bring people closer to Allah swt and His Rasool (Salaat wa Salaam on him & his family) and not to make dizziying amounts of money. as far as i'm concerned, this whole idea has become way too commercial. ofcourse these artists make money on a new release(mostly these are not available for free download anywhere on the net) and live performanc but atleast the spreading of nasheeds should be done in true and pure spirit, solely for the sake of Allah. And surely Allah swt knows best.
isnt there no such thing as copyright in Islam? a bro on the forum had a good argument something like in Shari3ah when u sell something the buyer can do whatever he wishes with it, Allahu A3lam if someone finds the bros post will be good :jkk:

Assalam o Allaikum,
I believe taking ownership of something that you have not been permitted to is haraam..
When you purchase a collection of Nasheeds, you are unanimously agreeing on keeping it and using it for personal use but not distributing for any means(goodwill/profit). In other words, your friends can come over and listen to nasheeds, but he cannot claim ownership of it by taking a copy with him, unless of course if you give it to him as a gift and transfer the ownership. While at the same time you cannot keep any copies otherwise it is not a gift nor share of knowledge, rather your earning something at the expense of other party.
You have to consider that the vary artists whom Allah bestowed his blessing upon are Muslims and part of their money goes towards the less fortunate people(Zakat). So you are helping not just the artists for their creativity, but the people they are supporting and the people after them.
If you can't afford them than I suggest you read a book or send a request and inshallah brothers/sisters will tend to your need...
