The Rulers Before and After 1924
There is a huge difference between the situation of the Islamic Ummah before 1924 and after 1924. Prior to that fateful day in 1924, the Ummah had rulers who looked after her affairs. A huge calamity befell this Ummah when her state was taken from her on 3rd March 1924.
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) says,
æóáóä ÊóÑúÖóì Úóäßó ÇáúíóåõæÏõ æóáÇó ÇáäøóÕóÇÑóì ÍóÊøóì ÊóÊøóÈöÚó ãöáøóÊóåõãú Þõáú Åöäøó åõÏóì Çááøåö åõæó ÇáúåõÏóì æóáóÆöäö ÇÊøóÈóÚúÊó ÃóåúæóÇÁåõã ÈóÚúÏó ÇáøóÐöí ÌóÇÁßó ãöäó ÇáúÚöáúãö ãóÇ áóßó ãöäó Çááøåö ãöä æóáöíøò æóáÇó äóÕöíÑò
“Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you till you follow their religion. Say: "Verily, the Guidance of Allâh that is the only Guidance. And if you (O Muhammad) were to follow their desires after what you have received of Knowledge (the Qur'ân), then you would have against Allâh neither any Walî (protector or guardian) nor any helper.” [TMQ Surah Al-Baqarah: 120]
After the destruction of the state the western colonialist nations divided the Islamic State into many weak and ineffective statelets so they could easily control them. They then divided them and placed their agents over them to rule the Muslims with an iron fist.
What is the reality today?
The reality today must be highlighted in order to understand the real difference between the period prior to and after 1924. The reality today is that the Deen has been removed from the implementation of life’s affairs; and hence the affairs of the Muslims are not being looked after according to Islam. The Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) informed the Islamic Ummah there will be times of difficulty and times when the rulers will be oppressive.
The Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) in one hadith, “Prophethood will last with you for as long as Allah wants it to last. Then He will end it if He wishes to end it. Then there will be Khilafah according to the method of Prophethood, and things will be as Allah wishes them to be. Then He will end it if He wishes to end it. Then there will be a hereditary rule, and things will be as Allah wishes them to be. Then He will end it if He wishes to end it. Then there will be an oppressive rule, and things will be as Allah wishes them to be. Then He will end it if He wishes to end it. Then there will be a Khilafah according to the method of Prophethood.” Then he (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) fell silent.” [Ahmad]
It is clear from today’s reality that the Muslims today live at a time where we face oppressive rule in the Islamic lands.
The Ummah today is ruled by the vultures
These vultures were not placed with the aim of looking after the Muslims’ affairs; they were placed with the full backing of the European nations. These rulers were placed to observe the interests of their masters in the west, i.e. to keep the Ummah divided by borders, to achieve western political interests, western military interests, western economic interests and western cultural interests. The current situation with Iraq is a manifestation of this colonial desire.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said, “To say that we can put off the war would be fooling ourselves”. In Egypt, over the last three weeks war ships have passed through the Suez Canal.
The United States and Saudi Arabia have reached new agreements that will allow expanded U.S. air operations from Saudi territory, including full use of Prince Sultan Air Base as an air operations centre, in the event of war against Iraq, according to senior U.S. officials and diplomatic sources. "We've had talks over the past three weeks that have been very productive, and both we and the Saudis are satisfied," a U.S. administration official said yesterday. He went on to say, We've reached agreements that affect facilities inside Saudi Arabia and a broad array of military operations that could happen in the event of hostilities with Iraq."
Saudi Arabia played the biggest role in the Gulf region during the 1991 war against Iraq, housing the U.S. command center at Dhahran outside north of Riyadh and serving as a base not only for U.S. air operations but also for ground operations.
The U.S. construction of Prince Sultan as an air command and intelligence center began in 1994, and in 2001 it officially became the home base for more than 4,000 U.S. airmen and the operations center for Operation Southern Watch, the U.S.-British enforcement of the "no-fly" zone in southern Iraq. Now Saudi Arabia houses 10,000 troops at the Prince Sultan Airbase.
Yet they still try and fool the Ummah with the use of cheap words. Cheap words which have no meaning. Prince Sultan bin Turki Bin Abdul Aziz said a few days ago, “We urged the Arab people everywhere to escalate their demands to achieve this call, and we call on all honourable Arabs to respond to this call. This demand guarantees the dignity of the Arab and the Muslim nation.”
He was talking about the demand for the Arab armies to protect the Muslims of Iraq. It is narrated by 'Abdullah bin 'Umar that Allah's Apostle said, "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim. So he should neither oppress him nor hand him over to an oppressor. And whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfil his needs."
If they are serious about protecting the Muslims and helping the Muslims of Iraq why don’t they remove the American troops from the blessed land of Al-Hijaz? Why don’t they protect their brothers and sisters in Iraq? Because indeed these are cheap words. These are the rulers who were placed as agents by the west to achieve the west’s colonialist agenda.
The Al-Jazeera Satellite Television station recently screened footage showing Israeli soldiers mutilating the body of at least one Palestinian, apparently using axes and large knives. Eyewitnesses have recently reported Israeli soldiers used axes and bayonets to mutilate the bodies of two dead Muslims from Palestine. Where is the Saudi regimes’ love for the Muslims of Palestine? Where is their sense of honour for Islam and the Muslims?
Indeed there is none. Their sense of honour and pride is for the West and for their forefathers who were forced over the Muslims by the British and French.
In Turkey nearly 2000 US Airforce personnel fly missions daily to patrol the no-fly zones from the bases at Incirlik and Diyabakir.
In Jordan Prime Minister Ali Abu Al-Ragheb said, "We are talking about a few hundred on the American side, but there will not be any large U.S. force in Jordan and it has no relation to any military campaign against Iraq," he added. [Reuters]
The Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Any person Allah has placed in (a position) to foster the peoples affairs and he does not give them his advice he will not even smell the scent of Jannah.”
The treachery and betrayal of these rulers is clear. Hence to solve these problems and to ensure the interests of the Ummah these rulers must be removed. Removing these rulers is the first step to the true solution to the main problem the Islamic Ummah faces today in the Islamic lands. Indeed the Ummah is commanded to account and remove them otherwise the Ummah will fall further and further into decline.
The Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "If you see my Ummah afraid of telling the oppressor: You are an oppressor, it is farewell to the ummah" [Ahmad, Tabarani, Al-Hakim and Al-Baihaqi]
Indeed Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) wished for this Ummah noble righteous Prophets and leaders. Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) wanted justice to be implemented over the face of this earth at the hands of these righteous leaders. Allâh (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) says,
æóÅöÐö ÇÈúÊóáóì ÅöÈúÑóÇåöíãó ÑóÈøõåõ ÈößóáöãóÇÊò ÝóÃóÊóãøóåõäøó ÞóÇáó Åöäøöí ÌóÇÚöáõßó áöáäøóÇÓö ÅöãóÇãðÇ ÞóÇáó æóãöä ÐõÑøöíøóÊöí ÞóÇáó áÇó íóäóÇáõ ÚóåúÏöí ÇáÙøóÇáöãöíäó
“And (remember) when the Lord of Ibrâhim tried him with certain Commands, which he fulfilled. (Allâh) said (to him), "Verily, I am going to make you a leader (Prophet) of mankind." [Ibrâhim] said, "And of my offspring (to make leaders)." (Allâh) said, "My Covenant (Prophethood, etc.) includes not Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)." [TMQ Surah Al-Baqarah: 124]
Hence Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) did not wish for the Ummah the type of rulers we have today. These are the so so-called ‘rulers’ that the West put in place and endorses, to look after the affairs of the Muslims. Rather what has become clear during the recent Iraq crisis is that the only affairs these so called rulers are interested in looking after are the affairs and interests of the west.
What was the situation before 1924?
The situation before 1924 was the opposite. The rulers looked after the affairs of the Muslims and they preserved the honour of Islam and the Muslims. The Deen was implemented. When the Ummah had problems the state regulated their affairs e.g. food, regulating the trade, travel, and protection of Muslim life.
For example there are well documented examples of Sultan Abdul Hameed, one of the last Khulafa’aa Khulafaa’ before the destruction of the state in 1924. Abdul Hameed took many initiatives for the Islamic society. For example, he established the Hijaz Rail Road in 1900. The railroad ran from Damascus to Madina, and from Aqaba to Maan. Sultan Abdul Hameed was also very concerned for the affairs of the Muslims. And Unlike the rulers today, he preserved the honour of Islam, the Muslims and their lands.
In 1901 the Jewish banker Mizray Qrasow and two other Jewish influential leaders came to visit Abdul Hameed and they offered:

1) Paying all the debts of the Ottoman state.
2) Building the Navy of the Ottoman state.
3) 35 Million Golden Liras without interest to support the prosperity of the Ottoman state.
In Exchange for:
1) Allowing Jews to visit Palestine anytime they please, and to stay as long as they want "to visit the holy sites."
2) Allowing the Jews to build settlements where they live, and they wanted them to be located near Jerusalem.
Abdul Hameed refused to even meet them, he sent his answer to them through Tahsin Pasha, and the answer was,
"Tell those impolite Jews that the debts of the Ottoman state are not a shame, France has debts and that doesn't effect it. Jerusalem became a part of the Islamic land when Omar Bin Al Khattab took the city and I am not going to carry the historical shame of selling the holy lands to the Jews and betraying the responsibility and trust of my people. May the Jews keep their money, the Ottoman's will not hide in castles built with the money of the enemies of Islam."
The Jews did not give up on Abdul Hameed, later in the same year, 1901, the founder of the Zionist movement, Theodor Hertzil, visited Istanbul and tried to meet Abdul Hameed. Abdul Hameed refused to meet him and he told his Head of the Ministers Council,
"Advise Dr. Herzil not to take any further steps in his project. I can cannot give away a handful of the soil of this land for it is not my own, it is for all the Islamic Nation. The Islamic Nation that fought Jihad for the sake of this land and they have watered it with their blood. The Jews may keep their money and millions. If the Islamic State is one day destroyed then they will be able to take Palestine without a price! But while I am alive, I would rather push a sword into my body than see the land of Palestine cut and given away from the Islamic State. This is something that will not be, I will not start cutting our bodies while we are alive." After this, the Jews turned to the British to turn their dreams into reality.
These are the likes that the Muslims were ruled by. They ruled over the Muslims to look after their affairs and not to act as ambassadors, foreign ministers or slaves to the west. This is the mechanism provided by Islam to solve the Ummah’s problems. The only way the Muslims can solve their problems is by implementing the Shari’ah of Allâh (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala). The Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Verily the Imam (leader) is a shield that you fight with and be protected by.” [Sahih Muslim]
This is the vital issue of the Muslim Ummah today, to ensure that the system of Islam is implemented. Otherwise the Muslims can do whatever they feel of practical actions in the Muslim countries, Britain and the other western nations to solve the problem of Iraq, but if this solution is not addressed the problem of Iraq and indeed the other problems of the Ummah will remain.
The difference in the state of the Ummah before and after 1924 is thus clear. In order to solve the problem of Iraq we must return to the former situation the Muslims were before 1924. That is under the banner of an Imam, a khaleefah, and a ruler who would look after the Ummah’s affairs.
Allâh (Subhanahu Wa Ta’aala) says,
æóáÇó ÊóåöäõæÇ æóáÇó ÊóÍúÒóäõæÇ æóÃóäÊõãõ ÇáÃóÚúáóæúäó Åöä ßõäÊõã ãøõÄúãöäöíäó
“So do not become weak (against your enemy), nor be sad, and you will be superior (in victory) if you are indeed (true) believers.” [TMQ Surah Al-Imran: 139]
An analogy can be made with the current situation of the Ummah and a patient in hospital. This person fell and hurt himself very severely. As a result of this the man became a patient in the hospital. But the news is that this man is going to get better in due time and revive to his former situation. Similarly the Muslims had a fall in 1924 when they lost their state but they are getting better and better and soon the revival of the Muslims will occur. All Muslims must be a part of that revival.

“So do not become weak (against your enemy), nor be sad, and you will be superior (in victory) if you are indeed (true) believers.” [TMQ Surah Al-Imran: 139]
An analogy can be made with the current situation of the Ummah and a patient in hospital. This person fell and hurt himself very severely. As a result of this the man became a patient in the hospital. But the news is that this man is going to get better in due time and revive to his former situation. Similarly the Muslims had a fall in 1924 when they lost their state but they are getting better and better and soon the revival of the Muslims will occur. All Muslims must be a part of that revival.
