On my way to University by train and by bus I always come across people with various illnesses and disabilities. The other day there was this blind old man who wasn’t able to cross the road so Alhamdulillah I was there to help him cross safely. My instant reaction is to feel sorry for him and assume that life must be really difficult. At the time same it’s an excellent reminder to thank Allah Subhana wa taala for what he has given me. It reminds me to be thankful for all the other little things that I take for granted everyday.

Unfortunately, we Muslims are so caught up in our daily life, that we very rarely take the time to thank Allah Subhana wa taallah for what he has given us. Instead of being grateful for what we have, many of us keep wishing for more. We seem to be more distracted by the things we don’t have.

Alhamdulillah we all have so much to be thankful for and it is a shame to just take it for granted. We have a roof over our head, as much water and food as we need and YET we still complain. These are all favours of Allah Subhana wa taalah and we should not take it for granted or even become arrogant, thinking that we somehow attained these things because of our own efforts alone. If we woke up healthy this morning then we are more fortunate than the million who will not survive the week. If we have never experienced the danger of battle, the agony of torture or starvation then we are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

The problem that most of us do is complain about the most pettiest things, ‘If only I had green eyes’, ‘If only I had fair/dark skin’ or ‘if only I had more money’ – the list goes on and on. We seem to be more focused on the things we DON’T have, instead of being thankful to Allah Subhana wa taalah for the things we DO have. We are so blessed Alhamdulillah yet we are not aware of it.

Anyway, I thought this thread would be a good reminder for us all. Let's thank Allah Subhana wa taalah for what we have. Let’s try and help those less fortunate than us. Let’s enjoy the gift of each new day and appreciate the value of what we already have. Amin.

There will always be people who are less fortunate than our selves. What’s important is to be thankful to Allah Subhana wa taalah whatever our situation.

Allah Subhana wa taala says that ‘We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him' – Allah tests those he loves. You have only to look at the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and see the tests he was subjected to by Allah to see this. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went through unparalleled hardship and he was always thankful!

When a person overcomes these hardships, if he is able to keep his faith in Allah Subhana wa taalah and endures these difficulties with patience and thankfulness that he has fallen into calamity and not into sin……then Allah Subhana wa taalah prepares incredible rewards for that person! In other words: the more one suffers in this world, the better the next world will be for them

When Allah deprives a person of something, he compensates for it, by bestowing upon him something else, which he excels others. For example a blind person who is deprived of sight, has very sensitive ears that they can almost detect very quiet movements around him.

Just remember that there is always wisdom behind what Allah Subhana wa taalah does.

Also, the very fact that Allah has guided us to Islam, in itself should be a source of continual praise. :)

Assalamu alaikum,

absolutely right good reminder.

AlhamduliLLAH for the mere fact that Allah ta'aala made me a muslim! and alhamduliLLAH for the hot water and the shower and the food and the drink and the bed and my eyes and my ears......the list goes on and on

if we were to try and count the blessings of Allah ta'aala we could NEVER EVER do it wALLAHI.

:lailah:

wasalamu alaikum wa rahmatuLLAH wa barakatu

Excellent reminder mashAllah!

Infact triggered of a similar situation that happened to me.

This old man in a electronic wheelchair was crossing the road and his bag fell and he rode over his bag and squashed his stuff. The lady got out before i did out of her car to help him whilst still ont he road and I helped him to put the bag on his chair and he wasn't upset at all that all his stuff he bought had got all squashed and stuff but smiled and thanked me! It made me so sad but thankful...:(

I think most of all which distracts us from our ibadah is POLITICS, whether its what madhab you follow, whether its corect for certain genders to do this etc. Money isn't going to solve poverty, only solving corruption is. Similarly politics isn't going to solve our ummahs problems but du'a and prayers are.
