took me 3 years, 4 tests, 1 strike action, 1 flat tire, 2 holidays and £2500 to get my license  alhamdulillah got there in the end
I know of a Muslim sister who teaches but only in Slough - there must be some around East London - check to see if you can have lessons after work maybe :insha:
p.s. I lost count of the amount of lessons I had - definitely loads - instructor only did 2 hour lessons and had them weekly
p.p.s. don't be disheartened by my antics - it was Qadr Allaah :)

Took me roughly 35 lessons ermm 18quid per lesson i had a lesson a week for like 8 months yeh i know i was skint then took 2 lessons a week for remaining 2months.
Passes second time round. I was so close to pasing first time round, plus first test it was snowing :rubeyes:i didn't even have to do bonet questions cause it was to cold to stand outside.
Ermmm sis, the average amount of lessons your meant to have is 45 and Im not lying. If you wanna be a safe safe driver. I went with AA and the lady would always show me the paper saying 45 lessons is average; if you have no driving experience at all!
Anyways ermmm 2nd time passers are the best lol jus joking.
Take 2 lessons a week ul be gd to go before june, make sure u pass ur theory test before u even start driving so u can get it out of the way.
Ermmmm thats about it, ul enjoy ur driving test cause i enjoyed both more than actual driving lessons.
Always say the du'a for going in a vehicle too

theory test - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/TheoryTest/index.htm
buy book and CD (visual test) (you can get these from WHsmith - though someone you know may have copies of both lying around) - once you go through them, you'll be ready to take theory test :insha:
well were do u go to do the theory test? u just buy that book and learn it first? sorry i am a bit clueless :o
your instructor will give you all the details. i recommend the dvla learning cds. i memorised every single question lol
so in the test i knew all the answers. but on the cd, there was 1 question which i kept getting wrong, and guess what, they question came on my test and got it wrong again...

You have 2 parts to the theory test. Multiple choice test which the pass rate ha sincreased from 30 to 35  and a hazard perception test which the pass right is I think 45 not sure can't remember..google it lol.
Ermm you will need a book and cd's. Try and see if anyone can lend u them who have finished with theirs. If you want you can borrow mine if I still have my cd's but you would need an up to date multiple choice book because they add new questions etc.
Hazard perception test is clicking before you see a hazard when you think its going to become more dangerous etc.
Re: 45 lessons: if you think your a quick learner sis, u won't need that much. Just thats the standard average. When ppl say they only took 20 then its because they never get scared of the road or had previous driving experience.

Took me 50 lessons (with no outside practise), one satisfying crash, and one test, to pass. That's normal, unlike Eemaan.

sis it really depends on you as an individual. But it deffo depends on instructor too. It's important you dont get one who wastes alot of time or messes you around..like mine :(
Mine seemed really nice and I was ready for my test I'd say in a month because I'd been learning with my dad for 2 years before that. BUT she kept fooling me about this technique and this examiner etc which I fell for. but by lesson 30 something I was like 'I want to book my test, I'm booking it' she kept trying to give me excuses why not to but I told her I've booked it and you wot believe what happened....
...well she phoned telling me she had a major car accident and has whiplash and her car is a right-off. that she's going to be in hospital for a long time and she needs to get a new car etc. At first I was soooo sympathetic and I was so shocked, and I was like 'oh dont worry its fine its ok I'll just cancel my test' and she was being so dramatic about everything and I believed every word...UNTIL....
...I saw HER! In her CAR with a PUPIL on a LESSON!!!!!!! OMG I was so infuriated!!!! it was all a big lie to stop me from doing my test early...what a cow..sorry but I could have said a worse word...
point being, it's upto you and your instructor, if you feel ready then dont let your instructor stop you. yes they have more wisdom and experience than you and you should take it into account. but make sure if you genuinly feel you're ready then go fot it. eventually I passed in my 2nd test and it took me over a year! because of that woman ugh.
Inshallah I hope you find someone good and pass in good time :)
and this was in yahorkshire? you're gonna die in London :p
i have no intention of ever moving to the south :vomit:

noway! I didnt want anything to do with her. instead I gave her bad rep...I knew other girls who were with her and I phoned them all and told them what happened. It turned out she said same thing to another of my friends.
I was also contemplating phoning the dvla or the driving center...but I dunno what happened, I think I had exams or something...I could have damaged her badly...evil women
Took me about a year. I took about a month off in between for exams.
About a year I think, maybe a bit more or less - I cant remember :o
I had about 12 lessons from an instructor and then my parents let me practice with them in their car as well as taking more lessons with an instructor. I didnt pass first time (I think almost colliding with a bus while on test kinda rules out a pass...) passed second time round and have been driving everywhere ever since! I'd wanted to drive since I was 14. Becoming a chauffeur to my younger siblings wasnt quite part of the plan though...my sis is learning now though (taking lessons) but she could have started learning ages ago. I really like driving though - plus my parents let me drive our mpv :)

i agree.. i see some ppl drive and wonder how they passed....
driving requires your brain to work things out in split seconds and make crucial decisions....also its quite logical...
for example i have seen soo many people join the dual carriageway or motorway at such a slow pace esp from hard shoulders....PLEASE - when joining fast flowing traffic -SPEED UP first then join...dont just turn onto the fast traffic.....
has anyone done pass plus?

the reason more men have accidents is because there are more male drivers

Alhamdulilah I passed after 12 lessons or so and first time, what I would advise is make sure you take constant lessons and then take the test. Dont have a gap in between, sotp then start again.
And passing isnt about being a good driver, its about doing the dumb safety procedures that you dont do when you drive in real life.
Ah thaat reminds me, I havn't driven since I came back form Yemen, man, I miss driving *sigh*

Driving is easy. The most important thing is clutch control, once you have that you are laughing, the rest is relatively straightforward.
Most guys start joyriding around 16 (that gives us an advantage), after that age I lost interest in driving completely, that happened with alot of my mates. I've been learning on and off for about 3 years I think. I had problems with one instructor, I would ignore him. I would go well above the speed limit, go through red lights and ignore him when he spoke about safety. He didn't want to teach me after a while and I don't blame him.
I have a very good instructor at the moment, however we tend to talk about politics for most of the lesson. In all honesty I have become very sloppy with the basics. I drive with one hand on the steering wheel, I still drive too fast and don't leave a big enough gap between the car infront. These bad habits can lead to failure! they are majors!
My advice:
- Don't rush it - take your time. 1 lesson a week is enough.
- Try and get your theory over and done with ASAP.
- Try not to pick up bad habits e.g. one hand on steering wheel.
- Pay attention when you're driving, imagine you are in your test. Lessons aren't just about cruising around.
- All ways think ahead when you drive.
aye dont sit with a ruthless driver in the car :D
or else their habits will come to u naturally.
(speakin from experience, when i went to my 5th lesson. I constantly kept one hand on the wheel..and went round bends fast, instructor took one gues and asked me if we have any law abiding drivers in the house, i looked at her n said 'nah' :D' she guessed it.

Anna, I was older than you now when I got my driver's licence, took me a few months to be able to drive properly, I repeated my parallel parking once then paid extra to take a few more lessons. if you drive manual, then try to get used to balancing the clutch and accelarator (oil?) and the gear. Many people after they got their driver's licence drive automatic car which is far easier esp female drivers. Among my friends in Malaysia, if a female drives a manual car means she really is somebody lol, cos female usually dont like manual cars and mostly are known not so good at it lol. But dont worry, after sometime you will get used to it, you will enjoy driving and u will feel so liberated:D and I miss my small car in Malaysia:(

I never drove before My lessons, but it took me somewhere 25-30 lessons over the course of a year and passed on my first go at Both the Theory and the Practical ... :)
it depends, some people are really quick learners, others need more time ...
it can certainly be done in 3-6 months, it's just a matter of putting in the effort, also I advise that you get your theory done asap, way before the Practical, then you will have more time to focus on the Practical.

Had my first lesson of two hours - then took a year long break cos' I entered uni and didnt have the time. then went back that summer 2006 - took lesson in batches of two hours about 3 times in the summer, then every week from October to late February during 2nd yr uni - passed my test first time with one minor (Alhamdulilah very polite instructor I had, talked about PC World the whole time :p )
so yeh 3-6 months suonds about right - average price should be around £20 and hour - so if you take say 2 hours a week, that ranges from about £500-£1000 in lessons, then about £60 for the test and renting the instructor's car for it (which is highly recommended since its the car you've been doing all your lessons, moving to a different car is a bad idea since it might have different sort of acceleration/brake) - http://www.020.co.uk/d/driving-schools/north-london/london.shtml found this should be useful for finding a female instructor Insha'allah.
A word of advice sis - patience is a bigtime virtue in learning how to drive - especially with Manual, you'll stall loads at first - sometimes you're instructor may be pretty strict (mine was, but he was a cool guy as well, Muslim too, had loads of 'Political discussions' with him regarding his country Pakistan lol), but yeh, things will get done so much quicker if you remain patient and focused - 1-2-1 <-- A good rule you should remember for parallel parking!
All the best with it sis.
P.S. bint you have a c-class!? I don't even have a car yet I drive my dads (uninsured usually :p only to run errands though)
gucci never learned :(

You're looking at the post of the best driver on Ummah :coolbro:
Where?
A link would be most useful
I think overall just double your age and i think that's how many lessons you need to pass - if not less :) (if you're over 60 don't bother- i'm kiddin' but over 60's get a free bus which is a plus :p )

I'm still learning how to drive. The first I almost hit mailboxes, the neighbors cat, and some other things. :o
Alhumdulillah I'm better at it now though and its high time I get my permit. been procrastinating.
And no its not true that driving is second nature to men. My brother is terrible at driving!
