I dont seem to understand this hadith correctly :o can anyone break it down for me inshallah?

Story of Omar ibn al Khattab and Ka’b al Ahbar
Omar (RA) said to K’ab: Oh Ka’b cause us some fear (think of the Khalifah going to a tabee3 asking him to scare them for the sake of Allah). Ka’b replied: Oh commander of the Believers, do the actions of a person that if they came to the day of resurrection and had the actions of 70 prophets they still would have deemed that little.

^ subhanAllah!!!

bro i think whats being said by Ka'b radhiallahu anhu is that, we should do actions which could be seen in the eyes of Allah as great as the actions of 70 prophets, BUT to our eyes these actions should be seen as very small, this is to feel humility so that we always strive to do more, and to keep that sincerity in our hearts.

JazakAllah khiar brother, athar greatly...... (its not really a hadith because the prophet sallallahi alaihi wasallaam didnt say it, its more of an athar.. statement of a pious sahabi/tabi'ee)

Was Hadrat Ka'b al-Ahbar a Tabi'ee?

In any case the narration is clear.

Sayyidina Umar radhiyallahu anh went to Hadrat for naseehah - advise. The line "cause us some fear" means that Sayyidina Umar wants to hear some advice/admonition/words which instill the fear of ALLAH in his heart. It means admonish me, guide me, assist me with your words of reflection.

In this reply - Hadrat encourages Sayyidi to righteous deeds, humility, sincerity, taqwa, fear of ALLAH, fear of sins. These are the main points Im getting from the naseehah.

- encouraging to righteous deeds is apparent from advising that doing such deeds as 70 Prophets.
- humility, sincerity, taqwa and the rest are followed by the end of the statement. that when doing your actions, even if you have done SOO many good deeds - DO NOT have faith in the number of your righteous acts but fear ALLAH and dont put faith in the greatness of your accomplishments. That is obviously humilty, and sincerity.
- the MAIN point is to keep FEAR of ones sins and to not think ones actions sufficient or to think oneself a big man. it means to continue with righteousness in immensity but to never have faith in your salvation being done through the work of your own hand.
