Meh, Khalid Yaseen? I've never attended his lecture - come to think of it, I haven't attended any Islamic lectures apart from the usual Turkish ones.

Studies first!

Turkish lectures are generally good. You are allowed to voice your opinions (rather than write on a piece of paper) if you wish. :p The talk is Turkish however and personally I'd prefer if it was done in English.

im going there in half an hour inshaAllah....hope to see some brothers there instead of being on this forum at night!!!

n yeh i prefer if sisters used papers and even some brothers because the nature of some very personal questions.. you wouldnt want to ask certain questions out in the open when your father in law is sitting next to you (not that im married but u get my drift..)

ok im off to this goodge street night of talks n ibadat inshaAllah
hope to see loads of brothers there !!!
if u wana spot me..i am the one with beard! lol ok more clues..im not dark or white but fair..not slim or fat...with a thobe on!

i know that wont help but it wasnt meant to!!
tkcare
and make the most of this night..if could be your last night...

Shouldn't the same concept apply to the brothers also? Why are they given permission to speak?

But then we could say that not just about the awrah but about numerous other matters such as travelling without mahrams, clothing... and the list can go and on and on

Absolutely. Men can travel alone because they can protect themselves. In terms of clothes, men also have to abide by Islamic clothing.

The reason why women are not allowed to speak verbally in lectures is because a woman's voice is awra and must not be heard by non-mahram men. If women are prevented from voicing their opinions, surely men shouldn't either. It's only fair

Khalid Yasin will be doing the talk on the 27th Night which is Monday Night inshaAllah..i went on the 25th Night, it was okay, the talk bit was great but the time after the talk as there were mainly teenagers many were talking more and doing less zikr!! That is a bit annoying because your trying to do zikr (read quran or pray) and all you can hear is teenagers talking!! However it was not that bad.

The Qiyam was good, especially the second brother who read rakaats 4-6...excellent voice mashaAllah...

However we left before Fajr as there was still 1hour left and we did it in another masjid.

I expect the khalid yasin talk to be packed...

However if you want to go somewhere for Qiyamul Layl with amazing Qiraat then i suggest Masjid Al Ansar http://www.masjidansar.com in Goodmayes as that Qari is amazing or High Wycombe (www.wise-web.org) as the two Qaris there are also amazing mashaAllah

Or you could do it at home in your privacy as many people end up socialising more when they should be doing zikr
