East London Muslims Caged Guantanamo-Style!

Two British Muslims will be locked-up in a cage, chained and hooded for 6 days and nights without basic amenities and comfort in a busy traffic junction corner on the Whitechapel Road (East London) from 2pm on Friday 5th October.

Hidden Detainees, the organisers behind the event, hope to recreate the barbaric conditions of the Guantanamo ! Bay (Camp X-Ray) camp in Cuba, where over 775 suspects from ar! ound the world were illegally held as part of America’s ‘War on Terror’. The notorious Camp X-Ray has received worldwide condemnation for operating outside the law, with record numbers of prisoners committing suicide and going on extensive hunger strikes.

“For over five years the prisoners have not been charged. They have been left in a state of limbo, rendering any effort to challenge their case in the court of law a futile exercise”, said Hidden Detainees spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Sati.

The organisers have teamed up with a number of other human rights and community organisations to stage this extraordinary live stunt, including the Cageprisoners, Reprieve, Islamic Forum Europe (IFE), Liberty, Amnesty, Centre for the Study of Terrorism (CFSOT) and the 1990 Trust.

The Guantanomo Bay Cage in East London will be officially launched on Friday 5th October at 2pm at the junction of Whitechapel Road and New Road (London E1, next to the Royal London Hospital; nea! rest tube: Whitechapel) by former Guantanamo Bay detainees.

I live down the road at Queen Mary so will check it out and post my thoughts when I'm back in London. When I was coming out of mosque they were handing out leaflets for it. I thought it was for a club called the cage so I refused to take the leaflet and was baffled why they were advertising a club outside a mosque lol luckily my friend knew what it was about.

it must take a lot of courage for the brothers to re-enact and sort of re-live what they went through in guantanamo. may allah reward all those involved for their efforts.

Sorry just to clarify a little matter of misinformation that has somehow been spread (not that anyone in particular has deliberately done as such) but these brothers Ali and Akhy Abu Mumin themselves have NOT actually been to Guantanamo Bay Prison (Camp X- Ray, Cuba) themselves rather they have done a re-enactment for the past couple of days of what our brothers do face on a day to day basis albeit under harsher conditions and with less attention to their plight there based on eye witness statements, finding from reports, and from brothers who have been and since released such our dear brothers Moazzam Begg (who came to do a short speach) and Martin Mubanga, etc.

The brothers who demonstated what it is like to be caged and highlighted are community activists masha'allah known to many of us campaigning with others to raise awareness of the conditions and the state of our brothers, to date alhamdulillah they have not been arrested for anything.

Anyhow to listen to the two brothers and get involved with 'Hidden Detainees (HD)' please feel free to attend:
