wow.. I didnt know this fact:

"Another incident which took place during the Conquest was that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) permitted Mut'ah marriages with women, but he declared them unlawful before leaving Makkah, as confirmed in 'Saheeh Muslim', on the authority ofSabrah Al-Juhani, who said, 'I accompanied the Messegnger of Allah (pbuh) during the conquest of Makkah and we stayed for fifteen nights, e.e. the days and nights totalled thirty, and the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) permitted us to contract Mut'ah (temporary) marriages with women...' In another narration, the Prophet said: 'Oh, people! I had permitted you to contract temporary marriage with women, but Allah has forbidden it (now) until the Day of Ressurection. So if anyone has (a woman with this type of marriage contract), he hsould let her off, and do not take back anything (of the dowry) you have given them.'"

Yeah. I just didnt realize that he actually did allow it before the prohibition.

I thought it was just a misguided Shia assertion.

just to clarify it wasnt made allowed/permissible by the prophet salAllahu alleyhi wa salam it was something already practised, The Quran and revelations to the prophet salAllahu alleyhi wa salam were over a period of decades so not everything came into force at once.

I think that even during the time when it was allowed, it was only allowed when the people went out on military expeditions. Allahu a'lam.

Yes.. actually I didnt quote the entire text from the book.. but according to Shafi'i, he said "I do not know of anything that was made lawful, then made unlawful, then made lawful, then made unlawful again except Mut'ah marriage."

Unfortunately it is still in practice, even in my country.

It's still in practice in the US as well. Some people will use any excuse to sleep around.

People who have the tendency of fornication, will find excuses to sleep around...regardless of mutah marriages.

Yeah true, but the whole 'mutah' deal makes it seem justified in their eyes. They're not fornicating, they're married for a week. Or a day. And of course, no need to ask permission from their real wife, at home, taking care of the children and making his dinner. So when she comes up with an STD...

There's just so much wrong with that scenario.
