Salaam alikum.

I have a question on breaking the fast. Do we eat before or after Maghrib? I thought we ate after we performed Maghrib prayer, but when I went to the masjid, everyone ate and then we all performed Maghrib.

Do we eat before or after Maghrib? I'm confused.

You break your fast when you hear the adhan. You can eat before maghrib but its best to pray first and then eat. The reason for this is that you dont know the day or the hour of your death. You might miss your last salat in place of food:)

When u hear teh adhan, u can break your fast with water, dates, juice, milk or anythign else available. Then, u rinse ur mouth well and pray Maghrib, after than u can start eating well :)

At my masjids, we eat dates and a drink of water or something when we hear the adthan, to break our fast. Then we pray, then eat the big meal :)

Eat first, then pray maghrib. Normally people eat or drink a small thing such as dates and water, probably cos' it can be done quickly and then do maghrib. After maghrib they'll then usually have a proper meal. It's up to you when you want to have a full meal but the general rule is once the adhan is sounded for iftar time, you eat first (even if it's something small) then pray maghrib.

but if u did die at that time before having prayed maghrib while breaking ur fast u wont b accounted for that salah bc ur intention was to pray it...

its sunnah 2 break it on time, like everyone said with something smallish and quick and then pray then come back to eat more is the best way insha allah

salaams anna.

I dont understand this statement. Isnt that what I said. Its best to break the fast, pray and then eat?

I was also stating that its not a sin per se to eat first but its best to pray before eating.

But bjrimc said the same thing everyone else said. Hear the adhan, break your fast, pray, and then eat.

Yes I did.

This is the third or forth time I have had people say the same thing as me and then claim I am contradicting myself.

:rotfl:

for the life of me, I cant figure their thinking out. Werent they taught comprehension in school?

i think the confusion was because " u said break the fast when u hear adhan " but then you said " its best to pray and then break the fast" but actualy as bro hammer said as per the sahih hadith. we break the fast, and then pray mahgrib insha Allah.

In regards to eating, you should break your fast before you pray. You should also ensure you eat enough to at least quench your initial thirst and hunger because nothing is worse than hurrying through a prayer because the smell of samosas from the table, wafting up your nostrils is diverting your attention elsewhere :p

Just FYI, you don't HAVE to hear the Adhan. As soon as it's sunset/time, you break with a date asap.
