I memorised backwards starting from the smaller Surahs. I don't encourage this method becuase when it came to Al-Maida, ale Imran and al-Baqarah I couldn't do it. I gave up on these for few years whilst going over the rest. Once I graduated, I had more time to get back into hifz so I just about managed alImran and al-Maida but just couldn't finish al-Baqarah. I had almost given up until as part of my masters it was mandatory to memorise al-Baqarah so that gave me the extra kick to finally complete the Qur'an.
As I said before is well, it is better to do it at young age, the older you get, the intellect becomes weak and distracted. My 14yr old neice and 13 yr old nephew almost beat me to it, had I not pulled my sock up :p

Just try your best bro. Remember, it's all about the intention. And in the hadith of our beloved Rasul :saw:, he said that those who try their best yet die before they completely memorise the Quran will be regarded as a hafidh anyway. So you will still get the same reward inshaAllah, the highest paradise!:
The Prophet peace be upon him said, "The one who was devoted to the Qur'an will be told on the Day of Resurrection: `Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite.''' [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].
May Allah give you tawfiq and to all of us, including me, AMEEN!

Hehe sister, I'm sorry to say that's wrong :o. Since there are about 6,666 ayats in the Quran and there are 365 days in a year. So 4 x 365 = 1460 ayats in 4 years if you memorise 1 a day. So for real you'd need a lot longer if you do that... :o
Was hoping you were correct so I could memorise the Quran in 4 years :p and then my mind told me that. :(

And you shouldnt go by Ayaats. Lines are more accurate. If you go 4 Ayaats, you might hit the longest ayaat in the quraan and ull have to do 4 pages! LOL. The longest ayaat in the quraan is the second to last ruku of Baqarah, for your info...

Surah baqarah is the longest surah in the qur'an.
Surah baqarah is the longest surah in the qur'an.
and inside surah baqarah is the longest ayat in the quraan.

Any other tips for memorising the Quran? :D
I'd like to take this opportunity to say something important:
"Dear Hafiz,
Yes, you undoubtedly have the greatest treasure in your bosom. The reality of this treasure will truly become apparent in the Hereafter when, on the day of judgement, the PARENTS of the Hafiz will be made to wear such crowns that will outshine the sun while the Hafiz himself will be permitted to intercede on behalf of ten sinful Believers who were destined for Jahannum. Both these astounding virtues are mentioned in the following Ahadith:
"He who learns the Qur’an and practices upon it, his parents will be made to wear a crown on the day of Qiyamah, the brilliance of which will excel that of the sun if the same were within your worldly houses. Hence, what do you think about the person who himself acts upon it?" (Abu Dawood).
"Whoever reads the Qur’an and memorises it, while he regards what it makes lawful as lawful and its unlawful as forbidden (i.e. he practices according to it), Allah Ta’ala will admit him into Jannah and will accept his intercession on behalf of ten such persons of his family who were doomed to the fire of Jahannum." (Tirmizi).
While the great virtues are evident from these Ahadith, nevertheless both virtues are subject to a precondition which is absolutely clear – the condition of practicing according to the Qur’an-al-Kareem. Thus, these rewards are not for merely memorising the Qur’an. Rather, they are promised to the one who memorises the Qur’an and also acts according to the injunctions therein. "

RofL, it's basics:
365 x 3 = 1095 Ayah memorised per year.
If there are 6,666 Ayah, than you divide that by 1095:
6,666/1095 = 6.08 years (a bit over 6 years). :coolbro:
A kid could figure that out! :p :D

Got it. :eek3:
According to this, it's a lot less than 6,666 verses:
3. Ayah (pl. Ayat), Verses. Ayah is a word which signifies "sign." It was used by Muhammad for short sections or verses of his revelation. The division of verses differs in different editions of the Arabic Qur'an. The number of verses in the Arabic Qur'an are recorded after the title of the Surah, and the verses distinguished in the text by a small cypher or circle. The early readers of the Qur'an did not agree as to the original position of these circles, and so it happens that there are five different systems of numbering the verses:
(a) Kufah verses. The Readers in the city of al-Kufah say that they followed the custom of 'Ali. Their way of reckoning is generally adopted in India. They reckon 6,239 verses.
(b) Basrah verses. The Readers of al-Basrah follow 'Asim ibn Hajjaj, a Companion. They reckon 6,204.
(c) Shami verses, The Readers in Syria (Shiim) followed 'Abdu 'lliih ibn 'Umar, a Companion. They reckon 6,225 verses.
(d) Makkah verses. According to this arrangement, there are 6,219 verses.
(e) Madinah verses. This way of reading contains 6,211 verses.
http://muslim-canada.org/quran_division.html
So let's just take the maximum number, 6,239 instead. So we have 6,239/1095 = 5.69 years! Which is a few months less than the other! :D :D

Hafiz of Quran in the past was a norm for the great scholars of the past, they used to memorise whole hadith collections, if i am correct Imam Bukhari memorised over 100,000 hadiths...or 600,000 i think....

I see, I thought that's what you meant, but still :buttkick: :p. So what's the maximum number the scholars/historians/whoever does ayat numbers have suggested? Is it 6,666?
For the women, it will be longer then :p, unless she does more to make up the days she missed...
3 Ayat a day is a goal, and if you can't make that goal in a day, then you should try to make it up like that. And don't forget Allah loves those who are consistent! So it's best to stick to a plan you can do every day and commit to.
You wake up too early! MashaAllah, keep it up  :p.

I think it means they have memorised it but maybe they need to keep revising and revising and maybe feel they dont have it fully perfected so they are like reluctant to label themself as a hafidh because they can not recite from start to finish in one sitting, yet they have learned all the surahs? i dont know if thats what the bro means here but i do understand kinda how this could be

GRRRRRrrrr you fishy fish. The poll is asking if the Muslim knows the paras they have learnt as a Hafidh does, and so if you are not confident that you have learnt the 30 paras at the level of a Hafidh, then you should not vote 30 paras simple as that. So you and Med are both fishes .
Though I already knew that he probably meant what sister Anna said, yet the poll in hand is talking about Muslims who have properly mastered it and can read it all in one sitting.

It could mean what HafizJee has said or it could also mean:
Bakr knows full quran but isn't a hafiz because hafiz woh hota hai jo Quran ki HIFAAZAT karta hai, because he is a hafiz who protects the Quran. Its not necessary that a person knows 30 paras and he is a hafiz - he could be clean shaven, benamazi, sharabi. Is he a hafiz?
Hafiz is he who memorises the Quran and brings it alive.
.: Anna :.
26-10-07, 12:23 PM
oh okay that makes sense aswell. such would probably be a person who learned it as a child but without understanding what is the meaning, i guess?
I would like to become hafiz one day, inshallah. How do you who are Haffiz actually go about memorizing the Quran? Did you have an instructor or teach yourself?

Your missing the point. It was an extreme example - the benamazi, sharabi, clean-shaven.
Point is the Hafiz is he who has memorised AND brought the Quran alive.
AND the Truest Hafiz was none other than Madani Kareem :saw: because when Ummul Mu'mineen Aisha radhiyallahu anha was asked about His Noble Character, She replied it was the Quran. :inlove:

:salams,
Haha, I was thinking that's what you probably meant too. :jkk: for clarifying . And it goes with my previous post (which I'm sure you didn't read :nono: :( :p):
