STATEMENTS FROM REPRESENTATIVES OF DETAINEES AND MUSLIM PRISONERS

Time: 3.00 PM TO 9.00 PM
Date: Saturday 29th September

6 years after 9/11, the number of Muslims in Western prisons continues to soar. Many of these Muslims are not behind bars due their involvement in drug related crime, violence or hooliganism, but are instead prisoners of conscience- prisoners whose only crime has been to voice an opinion. They have either been found guilty 'by association' or are languishing behind bars through laws that permit indefinite detention. Those are the fortunate ones.

Other Muslim prisoners have either been subjected to torture and abuse in legal anomalies such as Camp X-Ray, or have disappeared altogether, only to resurface in Gulags of the modern world. All these prisoners have one thing in common- they have all been robbed of their human rights.

This Iftaar has been arranged to remember the plight of these prisoners and their families.

COME AND WITNESS FIRSTHAND WHAT THIS INJUSTICE IS ALL ABOUT.

* Note: Iftaar arrangements include Dates and Milk, and cooked meals for up to 300 attendees.

Please bring appropriate clothing in case of weather change.

In addition we also offer logistical and emotional support for the family and friends of incarcerated Muslims.

The Muslim Prisoner Support Group is completely a non-judgmental organization and supports prisoners both nationally and internationally in securing their basic human rights that are based purely on Islamic foundations.

Belmarsh Iftar 2007 - Thank You for Your Support

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Gracious

The Muslim Prisoner Support Group would like to thank you all for you support at HMP Belmarsh on Saturday 29th September. By the Grace of Allah, almost a 100 of you braved the challenging conditions to attend the event. Be assured that this event was well received by the Muslim inmates inside, one of them personally extending his gratitude directly to the MPSG team via phone on the day of the event.

As Sheraz Khan (MPSG) mentioned in his opening speech, events of this nature can not directly secure the release of Muslim prisoners, and it would be unrealistic for one to expect such an outcome. Rather, events of this nature are a symbolic gesture to remind Muslim prisoners that the Muslim community have neither forgotten them nor abandoned them.

Speeches on the day were delivered by Murtaza Khan, Uthman Lateef (Hittin Institute), Paula Cochrane (Tuckers Solicitors), Muhammad al Ghabra (ex-Belmarsh prisoner), Esa Rifa’i – (son of Detainee OO) and Uthman Ali (Muslim victim of ‘trial by Media’). A family statement was also read out on behalf of Omar Khyam and other Muslims inmates who are currently being victimised by both HMP Prison authorities and fellow inmates at HMP Frankland.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all those who donated funds and supplied catering for the Iftar, may Allah accept their offerings and bless their homes.

The MPSG aim to launch a series of events in the coming future, please keep visiting our website for updates.

To conclude, we call upon Allah, the same Lord Who released Yusuf (Joseph) from the prison of the King, to release our Muslim prisoners around the World. We ask you all to remember them in your prayers, especially those ‘Ghost detainees’ like Aafia Siddiqui who along with her 3 children were illegally abducted by Pakistani and American agencies in 2003 and have been missing ever since.

And our final call and praise is to Allah Alone, the Lord of the Worlds
