Okay, I have joined the local Masjid management.
One of the problems is that that the imam/alims/teachers at the masjid don't get paid a decent salary.
Why? Because there are not enough funds to pay them.
Most of the funding comes from children who pay fees for the evening Quran classes plus modest donations usually at Jumma.

Question is how can we increase funding for the masjid?
What sort of activities/ actions are likely to bring in money?

Is there anybody else involved in the running of their local masjid who can advise.
All constuctive ideas most welcome.

Might be an idea to help them get job elsewhere also, ie chaplaincy jobs. One of the imaams from our town is chaplain at the hospital and has managed issues from muslimahs giving birth without males around, education nurses on islamic stuff at time of birth, halaal food in hospitals and so on and hes on a good wage mashaAllah, around £25,000

I know in Muslim times a vacancy came out for a muslim chaplain at Sheffield hosp and Alim courses are recognised qualifications.

Other thing would be to design a course for adults possibly, structures with islamic qualification, taught by the alim, a registration fee and a portion going to the teacher and other stuff for resources.

There isn't much work involved for Imaams at the Masjid to be paid anything in the realms of descent salary! I am dead against Aalim/Imaam becoming a highly paid full time profession.... that is in other words commercialisation of Islam. Don't they have any dignity or shame thay they lead the Salah and then queue up along with the cleaner to pick up thier pay cheque?

Though, it is permissable to recieve payment for teaching Qur'an. How much do they want for teaching 2hrs a day, 5days a week?

Masjid funds, in my opinion, should be used for purposes of facilitating Da'wah in the mosque. InshaAllah Ramadan being the month of charity, if you pitch it right, people will empty their pockets. :)
