Me and my friend are disagreeing about the time we should end our fast.

I say we should end the fast when all of the daylight(twilight) has gone.(which is around 8 o'clock where we live!). He insists that we just follow the timetable that says it's 7:25. But at 7:25 twilight is CLEARLY still there.

Was he correct to brake his fast at that time? He justified his reason by saying that all of the timetable around the UK say that it's around 7:25, so all can't be wrong.

Can we brake the fast when twilight is still there? (just twilight, no sun)

as soon as the sun sets, here in uk ull need to get the prayer times from ur masjid, cos of the cloud, as soon as maghrib comes in, break ur fast straight away, dont delay it, if ur in london its around 7;20 right now, but check it out inshaAllah.

It would be best to go by the calender - I know one might have doubts as to when the actual time for sunset is, but it won't be your fault if the time is incorrect (considering it was reliable people that prepared the times in the first place).

Best to stick to the Mosque calendar.

When its completely dark and theres no twilight in Britain, thats when maghrib ends.

You should break your fast as soon as the sun sets (about 7:20 in London) then go pray maghrib before it becomes completely dark...then come back and eat some more :D

I tend to use the lighting in the streets (the ones that come on automatically).

That should give one a fair indication as to when the sun has set (or is setting).

No. Its completely haraam to pray anything while the sun is setting.

As the sun begins to disappear under the horizon, its haram to pray. It will be kinda red or orangy...once its completely disappeared, thats when it has set and you must pray maghrib and you can break your fast. At this point it will still be light in Britain...it goes dark about half an hour to 40 mins later. This is when maghrib finishes...

eh? I've just been told that I can brake my fast as soon as the sun sets??
and now you're saying i should brake my fast when the sun is dissaperad?!
So i can't pray magrib even if it's a little bit orange? I mean towards the end of the sun set when the sun and the twilight goes away.(so basicly magrib can only be prayed when the sky goes blue)

You're really not making sense now :S

OK lets go from the beginning quickly:

1. You have midday, this is when the sun is highest.

2. Just after midday is zuhr.

3. A few hours later is asr. By now the sun is in the west.

4. When the sun is right near the horizon or part of it has dipped under the horizon, the sun is setting. At this point, praying is haram.

5. Once the sun has completely gone under the horizon (th actual yellow circle is gone) the sun has set and you must pray maghrib and break your fast.

6. Once its completely dark, maghrib has ended.

There is a distinction between the sun disappearing and it becoming completely dark...2 different things.

ok i understand. So you are allowed to pray magrib when the orange bits are still there, but not the yellow/orange circle?
