One thing you will almost certainly Not be able to do is Play the Latest Games with good performance, as even 8-900 pound laptops have very poor performing, graphics cards. other than that you should be able to do all the office work, word processing, spreadsheet calculations, database, and presentation and photo editing if thats what your looking for sis...

Be patient, and save the $ for a better one.
(it will be worth it)
Get at least, or one that you can up-grade to:
- 2GB RAM
- 160 GB Hard drive
- duo processor

i have a dell nothing wrong with it. my previous was a dell and that was also fine mashaAllah...

go to google and type: dell uk outlet

or try this direct link

http://outlet.dell.com/Emea_Dfo/EuDispatcher?country=GBR&target=InventoryPage&lob_constraint=INSP

you can get good bargains on laptops there but they are first come first serve and it updates every day, sometimes even after a few hours

i brought mine for around £400 and it was top spec duo core 2, 2gb ram etc etc

you should try ebay. it is not that difficult to get a decent uni laptop for under 200. just make sure it has a battery which lasts and no dead pixels and the ebay seller has 100% feedback.

sorry to highjack the thread, but i'm looking for the following minimum spec for under £150

CPU: 1Ghz
RAM: 256Mb
HDD: 20Gb

i just need it for web development work using linux with xfce. I think this spec is more than enough for my needs. so, for me, £299 laptop is unjustified from pcworld.

any suggestions other than ebay?

sorry. your probably looking at re-conditioned ones, especialy with that spec. dont think many retailers would even sell them? could be wrong but I havent come across any.

i just got 1 from ebay for a little over £150 and it's a TOSHIBA!

CPU: 1.7GHz
RAM: 768Mb
HDD: 20Gb

i couldn't really ask for me. ok that's a lie, i could ask for me...

only issue with it is that the battery does not last, but i checked ebay and people are doing "buy it now" on those batteries for around £20.
