Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem, wa salaatu wa salaamu 'ala arasoolillah wa ala alihe ashabihe ajma'een, wa ba'ad:
Is it from the sunnah to give gifts during 'eid? I have seen people do this but I have never read in any reliable books nor have I heard from any reliable sources that this is from the sunnah. What is the sunnah of Rasoolullah, salallahu alayhe wa salaam, when it comes to observing 'eid? What are some good sources to get a good understanding of what is and is not from the Sunnah of Rasoolullah, salallahu alayhe wa salaam, when it comes to the 'eid? Jazakallahu Kulli Khairan, aameen.
P.S: If it is from one of the sunnats then what anybody got any nice suggestions of what to give people regarding this matter?

I give sisters a headscarf (those closest to me) and the brothers a prayer hat. Or books always go down well.
The kids i get halal sweets and books.
For brothers and sister who are friends I have bought keyrings from ebay they are really nice....one is Al-Aqsa and one is Madinah, cheap but good quality....DS-Novelties on ebay.
Hope this helps Insha Allah.

Its from the sunnah to give gifts at any time, doesnt have to restrict to Eid only, nor to make it compulsory to give @ Eid. If u giv thru wanting to do so without believing it fardh insha allah it is okay, to make compulsory would b a bidah. At any time of yr gifts r incouraged as it increases the love between the people

I agree.
And I prefer the giving to the receiving....i think its lovely to watch a persons face when you give them a gift when they least expect it.

yeah, men are a bit difficult to shop for, but usually oils, books, clothing, watches/etc or gift certificates are good. My brother likes getting islamic books and Cds and a good ole home cooked meal
Peace
