What Does This Mean?

It's just a random sentence taken from an Arabic exercise book

but not too sure what it means i can translate the words but they don't make sense

the shaeed to/for the world...but that doesn't really make sense

Shaheed literally means witness, a martyr is called a shaheed because he witnesses his abode in jannah before he dies, but the shaheed they're referring to there is the ordinary witness, like i am a witness that you posted this thread, that type of witness.

That's 3aalam, like alhamdulillahi rabbil 3aalameen, and that is 3aalim that she posted because you can see the kasrah on the laam.

I checked a Arabic dictionary for 3inda and it has the meaning "with" aswell as the other meanings.

I'm sure about it, if it was to mean 'with' then they'd have used "ma3a" ash shaheedu ma3al 3aalim.

Without knowing what is in front or after the phrase it is difficult to give it the fully meaning, however in this instance it is used in terms of learning of knowledge, information, wisdom.

Shaheed indal Aalim, The kasra under the Laam makes it lim, literally it means "witness to the Aalim" the actual meaning is "martyr to the scholars". So those who sacrifice themselves for scholars. It is not necessarily a good phrase.

If the Kasra wasnt there, then it means a martyr to the world, again not necessarily a good phrase, it could mean a show off martyr, but it could also mean that the person was a martyr and all world witnessed it.

This highlights how important it is not to cut bits of arabic out from Quran how some do, though the above is not from Quran, it still demonstrates Arabic grammar sensitivities.

I downloaded this (http://www.ahlalhdeeth.net/twealib/0016.pdf) one a while back but haven't really gotten round to reading it, it's quite good from what i've read so far, but you'll have to know basic arabic to understand the kitaab since it's all in arabic.

Some of you read too deep into things :smack: it's a basic arabic book, it's not gonna be talking about such things, it could be that the book at that place is talking about prepositions, and saying the witness is by the aalim, or the persons name might even be al shaheed :smack:

and as for typing arabic with a plain keyboard, (i think it was Anna that posted this before)

To Install Arabic Fonts.

Download and follow the instructions from either of these sites,

After you have restarted your computer you should be able to type in arabic by choosing "AR" from the language bar in your takbar, if your language bar doesn't show then right click your taskbar, go to 'toolbars' and click 'Language Bar'

Now to get arabic programs working,

Go to 'Control Panel' to 'regional and language options', to 'advanced' and change the language there to arabic, when you restart your computer your arabic programs will appear in arabic.
