asalamu alaikoom warahmatulahi wabarakatuhu

I need help. A long time ago i heard in a khutbah the hadith that dealt with Sulaiman (as) and Azrael (as)(the angel of death), the hadith goes:

One day ther was some kind of somethign going on and there was this tall guy looking very strangely at one of Sulaiman's (as) councilmen, after the event (or whatever was goin on) finished, the tall person went up and talked to Sulaiman (as) for a while, after that, that councilmen went up to Sulaiman (as) and told him that guy was looking at him very strangely and he was very scared, he asked who he was and Sulaiman said that it was Azrael (as) , the angel of death. The man became very frightened and pleaded with Sulaiman (as) that he didn't want to die and asked him to send him to India (i believe Sulaiman had the power to control the wind), well after much pleading Sulaiman (as) agreed and sent the councilman to india, as he stepped foot in india, Azrael (as) took his soul, the man died. After some time, Azrael (as) came back to Sulaiman (as), Sulaiman (as) asked him why he was lookin at his councilman very strangely before and Azrael (as) said that he was perplexed, because he was to take the man's soul in India and he was wondering what he was doing in Sulaiman's kingdome,

Now can somebody verify that hadith? It came from a VERY well know and knowledgable Iman so i do trust it very much, however i would like to cross reference and state where it is from so insha'Allah if anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated

Assalam alaykum,
I have heard several stories like this, some of them not Islamic in origin. When I embraced Islam, and we got to the part about believing in All the angels, this topic (the angel of death having a name) came up. We were told that there were no authentic Ahadith ascribing this name to any angel, but that popular legend ascribed the name Azra-eel. The sources of the legend , we were told, may be Jewish in origin, but our teacher was not sure. Now we were being instructed by Da'ees trained in Madina. This alone makes me suspect the authenticity of the above hadith. Anyone else got any information?

Quite a number
Jibril (the Messenger)
Mikayil (the rain bringer)
Malik (The keeper of Jahanam)
Harut (One of the teachers of the occult sciences)
Marut (The other teacher of magic)
to name the ones that spring to mind
The Angel of Death, however, I was told, had no name given to him which we know. The name ascribed to him (Azra-eel) is from non Muslim sources.

I thought there were several references to the Angel of Death in the Quran?

In arabic how is he mentioned in these verses, is he called by name (Azraeel), or by his title "The Angel of Death" or "Malik al moath" ?

anyway the name Azrael isnt that what the Christians (+jews?) call "Azazel" or is that some Jinn?

i watched a film called FALLEN about a angel/jinn called Azazeel (http://movies.warnerbros.com/fallen/)

Ridwaan the name of the angel who is gatekeeper of heaven?

As for Angel of Death, yes I heard Malik Al Mawt referred to as Azazeel in certain readings.
