salam
i read this on an another thread and it raised some questions in my mind,
"And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts). Except from their wives or (the captives and slaves) that their right hands possess, - for them, they are free from blame. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors." 23.5-7
1. are muslim men allowed to keep as many slaves as they want or is their a number set like for wives?
2. What is the difference between a wife and a slave in terms of rights? are they equal, or what are the differences?
3. so many sources i have seen suggest that Prophet SAW had 12 wives, including Hazrat Maryam, who gave birth to Prophet SAW's son Ibrahem (peace be upon him) who died at an early age, on the other hand some websites only list 11 wives and claim Maryam (peace be upon her) was a slave, a gift from eygpt. so did Prophet make nikah with Maryam (peace be upon her) or we can not say?
can anyone please put some light on this?
Jazakallah :)
