Salam,

Is this another one of those pakistani myths that people think is part of Islam? Let me explain:

Someone on my msn last night contacted me asking me questions about certain things in Islam and he said in Urdu something like "Allah (swt) forgives someone who does not fulfil his duties to Him but wont forgive a person who does not fulfil the huquq ul ebad of people". My understanding of "Huquq ul ebad" is that it translates into English as "human rights" or rights of humanity. I was quite annoyed because I said although it was a long time ago when I read the whole translation of the Quran, but I don't remember coming across Allah (swt) saying anything like this and in fact other ayahs contradict this so I insisted that he brings me a reference next time and doesn't just assume it is fact. This isn't the first time I've heard of this "huquq ul ebad" argument, many people I know in Pakistan have said this.

My instincts and everything I know tell me it's a load of rubbish but I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of any Quranic or Sunnah references which can clarify this? Also can you clarify whether my understanding of the term "huquq ul ebad" is correct cos' if it is not, that could cause a terrible misunderstanding and I want to make sure the information I pass on is accurate inshallah.
