going to my great uncles house at night ( he lived in a house in the grave yard )

books about what the nazis did to people.

ghosts... as i then knew them, probably jinns like "the thing" under the stairs at my house, i used to think there was this thing that tried to grab my ankles when i went up the stairs at night. i had to get my little brother to walk me up and down the stairs and he would have to go on the outside.. :o

and the other "thing" that seemed to hang around in the attic rooms at my grannys house :o

and the "thing" under my bed :o used to have to leap into bed at night without going near the edge..

I loved wind turbines. Used to go there as a kid.
I loved forests. I simply adored scarecrows!

But it was a mad rhinoceros who broke a wall in a zoo that actually made me feel fear for the first time. There were people running here and there and that rhinoceros was so mad, it didn't know it had broken a wall and was free to run, it kept on hitting the other walls with its head. And while charging at the other wall, it actually came out of the confine which was keeping it separate from the people and then went back charging at the other wall. Now it seems so funny, but at that time, I was scared like anything.

Of course, even as an adult, one feels scared of thingys like snakes and extra colorful slimy lizards, salamanders and frogs too! Especially when one doesn't have anything that can be useful for defence!:rubeyes:

I've been trying to think of anything that truly 'terrified' me as a child. I mean there were scary movies and such... and heights. heights still bother me. And spiders. but they don't 'terrify' me.

No. The only thing that terrified me as a child, as well as now, going to sleep. :(

I used to have a repeating nightmares when I was younger. I'd wake up in the middle of the night crying and terrified to close my eyes, but so exhausted I couldn't stay awake. Nightmares that had me shaking for days and unable to even talk about them, nightmares that would have me (to this day) laying in bed crying "Please G-d, take the nightmares away" over and over until I fell asleep again.

Yah. That's the only thing that really terrifies me.

just thought of something else...when I was about 5 or 6, my older sister took me to see Sinbad the sailor. There is one scene where it's sunset and the clouds are all streaked with different colours...then the skeletons emerge with swords and attack Sinbad.
For several years afterwards, sunsets creeped me out because I always remembered that scene
