viral meningitis

I have heard of this condition before. But I did not know the difference between viral and bacterial meningitis. Bacterial meningitis is a very serious condition that can be fatal. Viral meningitis is rarely serious. Its just a pain in the neck, literally.

And I have it. My wife got it yesterday. Her best friend came down with it the day before. Starts with a stiff neck, soreness between the shoulder blades and a headache. I knew I had when I got the headache because I don't get headaches.

Usually not as bad as the flu

Took my temperature and it is 95.8 F. I think I'll take a hot bath to induce fever.

Also can make you a bit loopy in the head.

Bubblegum! :rubeyes: are you ok? i hope you and your wife heal soon. sorry to hear about your illness.:( how long does the virus last? sounds scary. (now see, if you were muslim, this illness would be an expiation of sins, ;))

when i was a kid my cousin who was around the same age as me died from bacterial meningitis. isnt there a vaccine for that now? why arent you in the hospital? how common is this virus?

No worries. I researched it and viral meningitis is as bad as influenza or BETTER. The bacterial one is the one too worry about.

Just a lesson for anyone reading. Bacterial and viral meningitis have similar initial symptoms. One is no worse then a cold. The other can be lethal.

inshaAllah you should be right as rain within a few weeks..keep an eye on any discharge from your ear as you can develop ear infections...be weary if you are around any children also, like if you take your own kids to day school..they may have to be kept at home while you recover in shaAllah..also if you have had any bodily contact with someone other than your wife or if she has they also need to be informed and must go for tests inshsAllah
