As salaamu alaikum
I am applying to university and im not quite sure if im going to get into half of them and also which unis have good english departments. I know Queen Mary's has a good english dept. and i looked at their prospectus and it looked really good and you also study a bit of latin which id like to do but i really doubt id get in! :(:(:(
Anyways what unis did you lot go to, how was the atmosphere during the jurasic period? (:o) and how populated with muslims are there? (dont mention isoc cos i dont really care about that stuff just prayer room and a good mass of muslims)
Also what did you study there? I love english literature and i know that is what i want to study but im open to any halaal options you have, nothing computer related!!!!!!

Niqi I totally hate you *sulk* ..I wish I'd done English lit..
MashaAllah.. it is really good that you took yr out after school and got your head sorted.. it means now you're making decisions in a totally levelheaded way, which is brill for you
Why wouldn't you get in to QM? ..what are you expecting for A Levels.. and what do they ask for?
Be realistic, and apply to the places you think would be best for you on the whole.. and do get involved with the isoc if it's a good one
What course does that faisal ur talkin about do? Am jus wonderin if its one I know.

Woooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, man, there be some serious politics goin on at ur uni. I go to UWE in bristol and am familiar with the other uni in Bristol. Al-hamdulillah i AM part of the isoc, and al-hamdulillah both unis have no problem like uve talked about. We dont even call ppl amir, cos thats a bit much for someone that young. We have several members of staff, who are al-hamdulillah, somewhat knowledgebale, so we can always take advice from them. Lets not give isocs around the country a bad name. The isoc is there to serve the Muslims at uni, not control them.
BTT, i went to Bath uni to begin with, and man, i hated it, there werent enough Muslims, and generally ppl there are snobbish (sorry to anyne who goes to bath), now im at uwe, and i be happy al-hamdulillah, so i reckon u just need to ask the right ques, also, dont go too far from home:D, you be surprised how much you lack in the cooking department:D

A NOTE TO ALL MEMBERS:
No names should have been mentioned and no uni isoc names should have been mentioned. The only reason i mentioned QM isoc was when i quoted another members post which he then edited.
We are all brothers and sisters of Islam not Isoc and i have met many sisters from QM and SOAS isoc whom i love and get along with, and they are very proactive in the isoc but that does not mean i will bow down to ever rule or opinion the isoc has or i will hate certain sisters because they are joined to the isoc.
The fitnah of isoc is known to all, only the blind people who cant see that everything apart from Allah and Islam is perfect, even my isoc members think that the amir guy cant make errors and subhanaAllah isnt this just taqleed and hizbiyyah?
Everyone should be aware of how they represent themselves and how they speak to other people because we arent dressed as ourselves but dressed as muslims. funnily enough even to other muslims we are dressed in the hizb form. So a girl not dressed in full hijaab will represent all YMOs and a full niqaabi taking from quran and sunnah is normally a salafi or whatever but ultimately we represent islam so be careful of what you say, dont get involved into worldly matters and start accusing people of all sorts because they do not take a like to something which you love.
I didnt mean to cause offense to any QM isoc member, but i speak the haqq i have see wrong things go on and i have heard even from isoc members of wrong things going on. And to be truely honest i dont have anything against members of isoc, iv become well aquinted with the heads of isocs and they are mashaAllah good sisters. I just have a dislike for anything with a hint of hizbiyyah and to me thats what isocs are.
And really please no more isoc business on this thread because i dont have the time and dont want the hassle of skimming past posts just to read about what i want to know! which is unis!!! :)
sorry for any harm :o

English literature! :inlove: I loved it at A Level and i carried on with 4 A Levels cos i didnt wana quit is and i liked all the other subjects i was doing too!
Have you already chosen which uni's you want to go to? Whata makes you want to do literature? Is it just the love for it or do you want to go into teaching afterwards inshaAllah? :)
I dont know which unis are the best fro Eng Lit but im assuming you would ahve done your research anyway :D
As for isocs :crying: :crying: i loved my isoc- i joined it for the free dinners looolll :embar: Must admit- i didnt get involved in the politics of it all but i cannot understand why Universities in London always seem to have issues when it comes to ISOC  they seem kinda (forgive me for saying this) but somewhat uncivilised when it comes to talking to people or expressing opinions! Look how heated this thread got! Sheesh.
Alhamdullilah loved my brothers and sisters in my ISOC- wonderful experiences, wonderful da'wah, wonderful people with excellent qualities mashaAllah :o
We shoudl keep it simple inshaAllah- if you know you cant handle the politics and would rather keep away from it- do that because otherwise its just going to affect your own Imaan. Some people go on a power trip- inshaAllah make duaa for them also and if you feel the need to express your sentimments, do so in a polite and calm manner :) besdies the fact that its far more effective, they will also find it damn annoying that youre so collected and cool :hidban: lol.
Ive had 2 totally different experiences with 2 totally different ISOCs- guess im lucky enough to have loved and benefitted from both :)

Zestyyyyy thanks for the post! Yes i love literature, i love books i can read one book within a few hours and i mean big novels!! I want to study english because i think its a broad subject and a good one and one which i can teach! It would be good to teach at a-level because that is when you dont just study the sujbect and books you go indepth and look at deeper meanings and study a broad range of novelists and poets.
Right now i have to study Bharati Mukherji but i think i will like it because shes indian and so far i have read nearly all of Bali Rai's books and i totally couldnt put them down because the issues he dealt with was so interesting and some of them i could relate to.
Anywaysss i know i have a passion for literature and i do want to study it but in QM you need 320 points and i dont think i will get that :( CW i stupidly picked ICT and i hate it :banghead: but at least im getting a good grade from it, its just hard to stay awake in those lessions and even harder not to skive :embar:
I like Indian authors! I only ever read Indian, Arab or Eastern authored novels :D Havent delved into Bali Rai yet, but which ones would you recommend of his?

NNNOOOO niqaabi! do NOT under any circumstances do something llike ICT if you hate it and its boring you from now! Im serious! Try and work hard to get the points you need and inshaAllah look at other Universities that also do English Literature. Dont give up on what you love to do... ask someone like me who has fallen into that trap for the last year but now im doing something about it inshaAllah lol!
Yehh love reading too, love poetry too. *sighh* my english lit teacher for A level was the best! ssoo quirky and eccentric.. we'd go off on one for the entire hour was great :D
I just finished reading "On beauty" by Zadie Smith! i liked it.
I like Pablo Neruda's poetry :inlove:

*Ahem* on topic point...
DNT DO SOMTHING u dont like!!!...i also did ict, coz it was easy, and im stuck doing computer science join with buesiness managment and accounting now in uni..Trust me ... *smiles* evan after what i said b4 2 ya.. Read Ghostwritten by David Mitchell.. thats the latest thing I've read and it's really fantabulously written.

Ofcourse you will inshaAllah! :) you cant give up when you want something ao badly! you took some time out aswell to come to the firm conclusion that English lit is what you want to do- now youre losing hope because of ICT? Just work extra hard, get extra help from tutor/coursemates if needs be and make lots and lots of duaa! :inlove:
BT University of Leciester also has a great English Lit department apparently ;)

loool...everyone loves MAths untill A2 MEI...ok seriously tho, its not that hard to get a C as long as u just do lots of work and effort..i mean u can get a D with doing nufing..*ahem* Trust me...so if u get a C or a B its all good
ICT is EASY...if u dont get a B or an A then theres problems....lool
as long as u do good in ur CW's and then just do the last 5-7 years past paper for AQA? then ur sorted they use all the same Q's but different examples..and remember always learn somthing and then an example for it to like u did for the input output processing thing in AS..and when u do A2 CW mke sure u follow the teachers guidlines ITS LIKE 5 times harder to pik up markes then it is on Excel..it cost me my A *Sad Face* ....
but yeh u can still get in if u dont get the exact marks..i know people who got in QM with CCB when they needed BBB ..etc im telling u inshallah work hard and inshallah ull be fine..MAy allah mke it easy for u..ameen...

Clearing is risky stuff though. Make sure you got a personal statement which says WOW! Get your ucas sent in early. Just work every day and night and make lots of ltos of du'as! InshAllah you'll get a place. Remember where there's a will there's a way so be optimistic not pessimistic and I guarantee inshAllah you'll be in any uni you want to go too.

which is where u can apply to unis that still have places for courses.

First time i did it i got an e in C2 u find c2 and c1 and s1? alot more easy once uve done c3 and c4....
and i did that..it doesnt work..but if ur gona pik out of one of them, then pick ICT...work at it...it is easier to get a better grade at ict then Maths...and just retake the maths modules u need to get a good grade in maths AS.inshallah...becuase its not good having an AS whihc is like an e or sumthing its better not to tell them lool i didnt...neway
CLEARING is basically when the results come out, all the people who hve met the grade req. get in and all the people who dont there palces are free for other to call in and say well i got this can i join the course? its like an insurance policy so that all courses get filled up plus an easier way to get it! *smiles* but it is a risky thing to depend on...
