Salam,

I just have a few questions and would greatly appreciate it someone could help:

1. What can you wear under the Ihram? Can you wear underwear/boxer etc.?
Can you use pins or some belt to hold it up so that it doesn't fall?

2. Is it ok if I bring slippers/sandals that have a brand name on it like Nike or something when I go to mecca?

3. Do you guys recommend me carrying all my stuff like passport and tickets or can I leave them in the hotel room?

4. How much does it cost to get your head shaved after you do Sa'Y

5. If my plane goes from NY to Abu Dhabi and then to Jeddah, should I put Ihram in abu dhabi and make intention when I cross the Miqat coming from UAE or when I cross it while going from NY to UAE?

6. After you do ummrah what do people wear to pray in Kabbah? Surely people wouldn't like jeans and shirt right?

7. When is the best time to visit the market place to get dates, books and other stuff?

8. How safe is Makkah in terms of going from Kabbah to hotel in late night/early morning alone?

Thanks to those that can help me answer these! Anyone can add their questions if they have any =)

Walaikum-Assalam,
I'll try and answer as much as I can, if that is ok:

You can't wear anythng stitched...so I'm afraid nothing underneath.

You can wear the belt, as there are non-stitched belts available.

Like you, there is no labelling, no brands, ie DOES NOT MATTER...Make sure your ankle is exposed in your sandals.

The barbers there, stand in the door showing you their 5 fingers (palm), this could either mean - done in 5 mins or 5 Riyal - Sunnah to have it shaved all off, rather than just a trim. Do clear it with them, as they could charge you more.

Confirm your meeqat with your group organiser if you have one...if not then, I'm sure there will be others on board, who you could ask.

I would wear loose clothing, as they (jeans & top) will be uncomfortable due to heat. Thoub is very relaxing to wear.

Shopping is always best after Esah, but the shops/sotore are mostly open during the blazing day (although air conditioned)

It is safe always, Al-Hamdolillah, but at the same time do 'tie your camel' be wise.

Hope this helps, Insha-Allah.

Also, do bear in mind, when wearing Ihraam...do not wear anything scented.

Do wear plenty of roll ons (anti-deoderants, unscented...like the brand SIMPLE)...As in the plane it is hot and sticky...sadly I have to say, people need to look after themselves a bit more better when travelling to the House of the Almighty!!

Do make Du'a whilst travelling, it is one of the times when the supplication is heard. Remember the ill & oppressed Muslims

Before Ihram I can use perfume/Itar or whatever but in Ihram anything unscented is fine right?

I believe that to be correct...Allah knows best.

Salam,

>>>Nothing. It will make your Umra void if you did and you will be liable to offer a DAM of a sheep or a goat.

You can wear a belt and there are special belts available at good islamic book/clothing shops which will allow you to carry your valuables.

To put safety pin is "Makrooh". However, should your private parts be exposed then that will be HARAM. Hence, put on the pins and pay a small SADIQA as a compensation instead of committing a HARAM act, albeit, by default.

2. Is it ok if I bring slippers/sandals that have a brand name on it like Nike or something when I go to mecca?

>>>As long as it does not have pictures.

3. Do you guys recommend me carrying all my stuff like passport and tickets or can I leave them in the hotel room?

>>>Never carry anything valuable and important on yourself. Most good 4 star and upward hotels now have safe in each room. Otherwise leave them in a sealed package with the receptionist in the hotel's safe.

4. How much does it cost to get your head shaved after you do Sa'Y

>>>Outside Ramzan and Haj, a full blade job to shave will put you back by 5 riyals. A hair cut will require an investment of 10 riyals.

5. If my plane goes from NY to Abu Dhabi and then to Jeddah, should I put Ihram in abu dhabi and make intention when I cross the Miqat coming from UAE or when I cross it while going from NY to UAE?

>>>That is absolutely correct.

6. After you do ummrah what do people wear to pray in Kabbah? Surely people wouldn't like jeans and shirt right?

>>>Whatever takes your fancy as long as it is not something disgusting like "Carling " or Vulgar slogans or pictures on the t shirt etc.
Jeans r problematic if too tight and show body contours as well as reveal your backside when you go in sujood.

7. When is the best time to visit the market place to get dates, books and other stuff?

>>>Do that in Madina after Eisha Salah.

8. How safe is Makkah in terms of going from Kabbah to hotel in late night/early morning alone?

>>>As safe as you are inside your own house.

Thanks to those that can help me answer these! Anyone can add their questions if they have any =)

>>>You are welcome
