Salam all,

What is the proof of barzakh? That is the what is supposed to be between life and death or whatever I'm missing here.

Thanks.

there's hadith that i can't find right now, that state that the soul will go up to heaven, and depending on what type of soul it was(good or bad) it will be received by angels either nicely or badly until he ascends. and this happens

Allah will say: “Register the book of My servant in Illiyyeen” (a register where the records of those closest to Allah are kept). So his book will be kept in Illiyyeen. Then Allah will say: “Take him back to the earth, from it (the earth) I have created them, and to it I will return them, and from it I will resurrect them once again”. Then he will be taken back to the earth and his soul will be returned to his body...”. (Ibnu Maajah).

Then his soul is returned to his body to earth for some questioning

Barzakh: Linguistically, “Barzakh” means a veil, barrier or partition between two things. Ibn Abbas (radhi allahu anhu) defines Barzakh as, a Hijab (a partition of veil). Adh-Dhahhak (a Tab’ieen scholar of Tafseer) says: ‘Barzakh is the stage between this world and the Hereafter.’ Al-Qurtubi, in his exposition on these various interpretations states: ‘The Barzakh is a barrier between two things. It is the stage between this world and the other world - from the time of death until the time of Resurrection. Thus, whoever dies enters the Barzakh” All these various explanations point to one underlined fact, that the soul after having separated from its worldly body, enters into a realm behind which there is a barrier forbidding any return.

With that known, you can search upon what happens to people when they are put in the grave. One example of a hadith:

According to Hazrat Abu Hurayrah radhiallahu anhu, Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam said “When the body is placed in the grave, two angels come to it. They are dark coloured and have blue eyes. One of them is Munkar, the other Nakir. They begin by asking him about the person (sent to them). If he is a Believer, he will say, He is a slave of Allah and His Messenger. I bear witness that no one besides Allah is worthy of worship and that without doubt Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam is His slave and Messenger.” The angels remark ‘we knew you will give this answer.’ His gra! ve will be then extended seventy arms length square. He is asked to sleep but he wants to go and report his position to his family. They inform him that once here, no one can return) he must sleep like a bride whom only her husband can awake. (Thus he remains in the grave peacefully). He will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection by Allah.

If he is a hypocrite, he will reply I do not know more than what I have heard people say. The angels will say that they knew he would give such a reply. The earth will be directed to squeeze him and he is pressed so that his ribs are broken. Then, he remains in torment until the Day of Resurrection.” ~Tirmidhi
