Salam,

Basically I just wanted to know what Quranic Ayah's or hadiths say about some of the rewards of going to Friday prayer/listening to Kutbah as tomorrow is Friday and it would be great to read the rewards/benefits before I go as a reminder to myself (more of an Imman booster for me) =)

Wa Alaykum Assalaam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuhu

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Each of the five daily prayers and from one Jumu’ah prayer to the next is an expiation for the time in between, so long as one does not commit any major sin.” (al-Tahaarah, 342).

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘When Friday comes, at each door of the mosque there are angels who write down the first ones to come to the mosque. Then when the imaam sits down they close their books and come to listen to the sermon. The one who comes early (for Friday prayer) is like who sacrificed a camel, then those who come after him (in order of their coming) are like one who sacrificed a cow, then one who sacrificed a horned ram, then one who sacrificed a chicken, then like one who offered an egg.” (narrated by al-Bukhaari, al-Jumu’ah, 1416).

It was narrated in a hadeeth that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever makes his wife do ghusl and does ghusl himself [i.e., has intercourse] on Friday and goes out early, walking not riding, and comes close to the imaam and listens [to the sermon] without interrupting, will have for each step he takes a reward equal to that of fasting and praying at night for one year.” (Narrated by Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, no. 687)

Is Friday prayer compulsory for men? Because, honestly, it's the worst part of my week.

Subhan-Allah, it should be the BEST part of your week.

Maybe it's the best part of your week.

But..

I hate 90% of the people at the masjid.

The khutbahs are so incredibly boring, I've fallen asleep.

The imam doesn't speak proper English.

And it seems an all-around waste of my time.

That's why I asked if it was compulsory for men to go.

If it is, I have no choice. If it's not, I'm certainly not going to waste my time.

You Hate 90% of the Muslims in a Masjid?

and you expect Allah to accept your prayer with such Hate in your hearts?

I worry about stumbling and making mistakes in recitations etc, I just hope he accepts my prayers...

When you enter the Masajids, forget any grudge or hatred you have, fulfill the Purpose, Pray with all sincerity, even if an enemy (someone you really hate) sits next to you ...

It is not fard on the Imam to speak Proper English...

if he can Alhumdulillah, if not, you can't hold it against Him...

If you know someone who can do a better job then suggest it to them...

it would also do you good to regularly read the Furqan with the Translation ...

you'll then be able to grasp the meanings of many Arabic Words which will increase your comprehension...

Friday Prayers are Compulsory, as mentioned in the Quran, we are supposed to drop everything and attend the Friday Congregational prayers...

Al-Quran, Chapter 62 : Verse 9
------------------------------
"O ye who believe! When the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday (the Day of Assembly), hasten earnestly to the Remembrance of Allah, and leave off business (and traffic): That is best for you if ye but knew!
