View Full Version : Where to wear Ihram? Advice Required
Salaam Everyone
Inshallah going to Umrah end of July. Flying with Saudi Airline from Manchester to Jeddah (and it stops twice - at Geneva and Riyadh but we stay on the plane).
I need opinions on where to wear our Ihram?.
I was thinking on the plane as i heard there is room on Saudi planes.
Opinions please?

If you're going madinah first you don't need to wear the ihraam. If you are going makkah then they should announce in the Saudi Airlines that they're approaching meeqat so that you can put the ihram on. Other than that you can wear the actual ihraam from UK but make the niyyah just before you reach the meeqat you only have to make the niyyah.

The best thing about Saudi Airlines is that they will announce when they're approaching the meeqaat so that you can change (if you don't before leaving Manchester) and when you're at the meeqaat as well.
They do have changing rooms(well most of them do) but it would be rather packed so I suggest you do change before boarding and make the niyyah when they announce you're approaching the meeqaat.
Going Makkah first and yes I know about the Mikhat (Done Haj and Umrah alhumdolillah) - but just thinking about the 'convenience factor' and how easy it would be to wear on the plane.
Previously i wore my ihram at Bahrain and Heathrow but going from Manchester for the first time. Anyone done this leg? i.e. Manchester to Jeddah direct?

I've done Manchester to Jeddah via Zurich/Riyadh.
My dad put his Ihram on in the plane when we landed in Riyadh.

But it's not direct is it?
I'd say putting it on after landing in Riyadh would be alright.
Akhi, you'll probably be touching down in Jeddah yes? Ive done the UK to Jeddah direct via Saudi Airlines a few times in past couple of years.
With Saudi Airlines, me and nearly everyone else put on our Ihrams after the announcement was made on the plane, in a small curtained off part of the plane reserved for salaat. Will it be night when you're going? If so, many will be asleep so get someone to hold the curtains while you quickly change.
Are you going to Medinah also? If so, you may also want to do Umrah on the way back, from Medinah to Makkah. If your travelling by coach (SAPTCO most likely) or by private hire, then they should stop before reaching meeqaat at one of the many masjids along the way on the round. Especially if its a reasonably bigger masjid, then it should be good to put your ihram on their, as I did.

For the Ihram you mean? You can buy the material just like you would buy any fabric (not stiched though) here in UK or wherever.
You could buy that (forgets fabric name because doesn't know much about fabrics) sort of material, you know the one thats pretty 'stiff' when you first buy it. The one you'll probably need to wash a few times to soften up.
But personally, I prefer the softer material that towels are made from. They give you more freedom to walk in and arent so stiff around you.
I hope that helps, and excuse my lack of fabric terminology...:coolbro:
