Well obviously dancing on the dancefloor aint halal and playing bollywood songs is not halal so how do u play to entertain the guests?

There's always bollywood songs in desi weddings, thats a given. Quran recitation and hadith sayings sounds good to me. Nasheeds
and nasheeds ( non instrumental ones). :hidban:

the bit about bollywood is true, i wnet to this weddding where one min they were listening to songs and next min the speaker told women to cover their heads for Quranic recitation from good recitors and before it was finshed they out the songs back on...

No quran nor hadith, people wont listen to them. and youre supposed to listen quitely and attentively to the quran or hadith and u know what's wedding like, people chatting, merry making etc. Nashid is ok i think. But if ure for simple wedding then entertainment is not necessary at all, you just invite people for the waleemah, eat, congratulating the bride/groom and the parents, that's it. Just me though.

See, this stuff doesn't work though. Unless the guests are practicing, pious, impassioned Muslims, the guests won't care about the recitation or anything else that is halal entertainment. It's reality. Muslims, these days, are becoming far too secular and too motivated by the West to even think on their own.
Well obviously dancing on the dancefloor aint halal and playing bollywood songs is not halal so how do u play to entertain the guests?
take two rooms ( or even better two sperate houses/halls so there is no intermingling in the corridors....:nono: ) one for the men and one for the women, give them a table full of good food, large jugs of iced juice, and leave them to party
If you want the wedding to be an opportunity for Islamic activity, then it's worth calling in a trusted practising Muslim to give a brief (no more than 20 mins) talk on marriage. People will listen to that if the speaker isn't boring or waffling for aaaages  Be careful who you pick to give the talk though. I agree with the others, no one will bother to listen to recitations.
The ultimate halal entertainment at weddings is good food. GET A CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN:up:

lol sounds good :D
btw I second the chocolate fountain thing...went to a wedding where they had that, was awesome :D
It was by a lake/reservoir type thing an was a nice sunny day so was pretty cool...you should do that too for some "natural" entertainment

bouncy castles are a good way to keep annoying kids busy. hehe
usually though, i didn't think u really needed entertainment at a wedding. choc fountain i thought would come under food, and usually u just go round talking to people u havnt seen in a while. thers usually a few speeches, and thats bout it.

I like the idea of a short talk on marriage to begin with, people listen if it's short and sweet :)
I have also heard it's disrespectful to play Quran where people are talking over the recitation. In our families we usually compile a CD of halal nasheeds which are favourites of the bride, and play that instead.
We also have cake, so gives everyone something else to look forward to and people aren't as bored :)

We can have both
In fact, I imagine with the number of people that are gonna be there most would get bored waiting for their turn so you'll probably need like 10 PS3s and 10 xboxes...
That rules that out then :p
Hand out low-powered paintball guns to some of the men as they go in...that should add a twist to the food fight :p
I went to some thing (can't remember what it was...don't think it was a wedding) and they had face painting for little kids...that sounds alright for (very) small children...
They also had little kids going on stage to sing but no one would should up...was kinda funny :p

Obviously that is pretty much a given. But you don't go to a Walimah just to give dua' for the couple. You go there to do that, and to also enjoy your time and appreciate it - then thank them for the great time you had.
I don't know about you, but it's either just sitting there looking across the table listening to boring stories - or the bouncy castle.
I'm a man of principle you see.
I'd take the bouncy castle.
But when there are video games, make room for me please.

i just read a very interesting story related to the title of this thread
a man once gave his son a very extravagant wedding, full of haram and bida
afterwards, the man felt remorse, and went to a sheikh to seek some type of way of tawba
the sheikh screamed at him, you publically disobey Allah and invite people to haram and bida, then you privately come here to seek repentance?
go and invite all of the people and youth you led astray with your show of extravagance and inform them of your tawba
Its those men who dress up and come and dance at yr house if there's a wedding or a baby boy born etc.

If Muhammed :saw: could have light hearted fun then so can the rest of us. As for reciting surahs, yes you could say a few verses here and there, but at the end of the day people will be eating and chatting to relatives so you couldn't have a CD playing thru the whole wedding.

Erm...no idea wat qirat jalsa is. But why would the restaurant kick you out? Was it an all you can eat place?
They kicked us out because it was late (maybe 11.00? --> the British idea of "late") and they were closing :)

the idea of video games sounds good. . . keeps the males entertained, because we seriously have nothing to do. we're not gonna talk about our clothes, etc.
especially the desi weddings, sometimes lasts 3 or 4 days. seems like such a drag
I have an idea
Why do you say the bouncy castle is just for kids? As long as the men and women aren't mixed together, I think the adults should take full advantage of it too (just try and picture it for a minute)@)
:rotfl:
lol! :D :rotfl: :outta:

first and foremost are these weddings halaal....(islamiclly)
im kinda confused as we go musjid have your nikah and then go fetch your newly beloved wife????:confused::confused:
walimah normal after the nikah is consumated....sometimes the same afternoon or the next day....
where does the entertainment fit in????
Wedding is to meet with other people, discuss, talk and can play some games, I remember a wedding they brought a guy goes with a mic asking people some questions (of course in a nice way) with some fun stuff and a camera (that was in the men section of wedding).
Questions from religious to geo to history and more like makeing points/score and I guess was the same with women section.
I remember he asked me
Who invited you ?
What-if they didn't invite you and you just know about it, what would you do?
When was the last time your neighbour prayed Fajer in the mosqu?
As I said, with a smile on his face and shakes your hand and would give you a rose or a pc of chocolate if he thought he bothered you.
Sometime he would of just do an Nasheed or play a Nasheed and ask about it or who made it..etc.
It was fun, I persoanly enjoyed every minute listening and laughing .. it was amazing.

I am not exactly sure but..basically muslim families copy non-muslim traditions and the things the do which are not allowed in Islam such as music and dancing and mixing of males and females which kuffaar do.

AllahuAkbar....May Allah save us from this evil and keep us steadfast on the beloved Sunnah or Nabi :saw:...ameen
I recently went to the best wedding ever. The nicest and most simplest wedding i have ever been to.
The hall was completely segregated- i didnt see a single man. As i walked in the father of the bride who is also well learned in Islam mashaAllah and i think runs a school- was giving a brief talk on the beauty and significance of marriage in Islam.
When he finished he asked all the guests if the food was ok, he then asked his daughter to come closer to where the barriers were put up between men and women so that she could get her nikkah read. So the nikkah was read in front of all of us who were present and we all continued to eat after that and then just headed home :D
SubhanAllah there was so much barakah in this- you could actually feel it! :inlove: It was the shortest wedding i have ever attended (only stayed about 2 hours max) but it was by far the one i have felt most content at.
Its such a shame when you try to do things the right way and your family just cant understand it or think youre being "extreme." I can see myself facing this problem with my sister who has just had a proposal, has accepted and so will be getting married inshaAllah. There's only so much you can say before you just shut up cos people will think youre just trying to create problems- when in reality, all you want is for them to have complete barakah in their marriage and to understand the significance of it from an Islamic point of view!
