I wanted to ask if some brother or sister can answer this question, been buggin me for some time...

Is it correct to put mehndi/Henna on for men and women before, on or after their (actual) Wedding ?

If some bro, or sis can give an answer with reference to an authentic Hadith, it would be much appreciated...

It is cultural  but men can use henna on their hair it is considered a sunnah, so I dont think there is any harm unless... them aunti jees apply all over the body thats just  :S wrong..avoid that!

This is the only hadith related to henna I can find

Sahih Bukhari
Volume 5, Book 58, Number 257:
Narrated Anas:

(the servant of the Prophet) When the Prophet arrived (at Medina), there was not a single companion of the Prophet who had grey and black hair except Abu Bakr, and he dyed his hair with Henna' and Katam (i.e. plants used for dying hair). Through another group of narrators, Anas bin Malik said,. "When the Prophet arrived at Medina, the eldest amongst his companions was Abu Bakr. He dyed his hair with Hinna and Katam till it became of dark red color.

these are rough ; will try and find exact wording inshallah

Abu Dawud narrated that a woman one handed a note to the Prophet (saw) from behing a curtain and he said 'I do not know if this is a hand of a man or a woman ' and she said ' it is the hand of a woman' and he said 'if it is a hand of a woman then you would dye your nails (meaning with henna).

in another hadith Abu Dawud narrated that Aisha (ra) said there was no harm in henna, but she disliked it, as the prophet (saw) had disliked its smell .

Mehndi and men:

Men can applying mehndi to their hair.
If there is a deeo wound then men can apply mehndi to the wound/alternatively they can apply haldi (turmeric in english I think?)

Back home some men put mehndi on their whole hands - looks a bit :S - but having said that I used to have a problem with the soles of my feet and would every few months put on some mendi on the soles to make the skin better :D

I dont know of hadeeth - in our fiqh it is not permitted for men to wear mehndi for decoration. If you are alluding to the mehdni rasam that is in our indo-pak culture then it should be refrained from inshaALLAH. :)

Was this regarding the marriage of Sayyidina AbdurRahman ibn Awf?

Raziel: bro if you getting married and they wanna do a mehndi rasam then I'd advised strongly against it. A halfway point is that you can have a dholki night (with purdah) that might calm yr in-laws. its a compromise we have to make. :coolbro:

took this from one of sis asiyas posts

Anas said: "Abdur-Rahmaan came to al-Madeenah, and the Prophet assigned Sa'ad ibn Ar-Rabee' al-Ansaariy as his brother. Sa'ad took him to his house, called for food, and they both ate. The Sa'ad said: "O my brother, I am the wealthiest of the people of al-Madeenah (in another version: "... of the Ansaar"), so look to half of my property and take it (in another version: "... and I will divide my garden in half"). Also, I have two wives (and you, my brother in Allaah, have no wife), so look to which of mine pleases you more, so I can divorce her for you. Then upon the completion of the prescribed waiting period, you may marry her." 'Abdur-Rahmaan said: "No, by Allaah, may Allah bless you in your family and your property. Show me the way to the market-place."And so they showed him the way to the market-place and he went there. He bought and he sold and he made a profit. In the evening , he came back to the people of his house with some dried milk for cooking and some ghee. After that some time elapsed, until he appeared one day with traces of saffron on his garments. The Prophet said to him: "What is this?" He said: "O Messenger of Allaah, I have married a woman among the Ansaar." The Prophet answered: "What did you give her for her dowry?" He answered: "The weight of five dirhams in gold." Then, the Prophet said: "May Allaah bless you, give a feast if only with one sheep." 'Abdur-Rahmaan said: "I have seen myself in such a state that if I were to lift a stone, I would expect to find some gold or silver under it." Anas said: "I saw after his death that each of his wives inherited one hundred thousand Dinars."

dholki is a drum. In our indo-pak culture in the days leading up to the wedding women get together and play the drum and sing wedding songs.
