Not a good idea to bring a gift. Say you bring flowers she might have an allergic reaction to them or make her hay fever trigger, and if you bring plastic flowers she might think you’re cheap, and chocolates she could be on a diet and you might offend here. The same with Gold, she properly ask for 24 carats while you brought her a cheap alloy , and perfume it might not be her favorite one, come to think of, don’t even go and visit here. To much stress

oh yea, and women - don't ask for a detailed future plan, and don't make notes (about the future plans)!

You're gonna scare everybody away. Most men don't plan that far ahead - coping with the week ahead is bad enough.

Please don't wear too many designer labels- it makes one look cheap esp. not those tops like gucci where it says gucci again and agaian and again in print on the front of the shirt. :nerdbro:

Please no corny bollywood lines or the sort.

Also please no bollywood ringtones- a br wanted my hand until is pent one minute in his company and his phone rang and it was some sort of bhangra tune- i nearly ran. so please Islamic ringtones would be so impressive (esp if you have bluetooth cuz even if the lady says no- you can exchange Islamic audio files and leave with something :D - with permission of Mahrem! )

Please also don't pester the girl until you go mad and confess in the end it's because your VISA is running out- yes this has happened to me and now it wasn't flattering :crying:

Abandoned-Mind

Be yourself.

Don't bring out the thawb out you wear twice a year.

Don't drown yourself in 'athar you just brought the same day from a Islamic book shop.

Don't start acting all shy if you ain't. Makes you look like a idiot.

Don't stutter unless its how you are.

Don't drop the usual lines "Oh I want to make hijrah to saudi/pakistan/morroco/dubai/afghanistan".

Don't agree with points you don't actually agree with.

Have a proper look at the lady and make sure you can wake up with her the next day. (i.e think, don't go actually try).

Do the halaal, don't do the haraam.

Simple.

Be yourself. Its yourself that she'll live with for the rest of her life, not your twice a year " perfect mu'min look" phase sort of thing.

1. Choose deen, then looks...

Don't ask about her history and vice versa don't reveal yours.

Look at the times we live in.

flowers are always welcome. Not some cheapy roadside petrol station £3.99 type, Get then handpicked. No roses, something a bit more thoughtful, maybe lilies. And always give to the mother to pass to the daughter .

Be smart but not over dress, no yellow teeth :smack:, please brush your teeth. A smile is good too, your not there to be shot , be confident and considerate and humour is essential too .

Also eat but don't eat too much and don't eat with your mouth open or make noises when you chew :smack:

Sister, the word in the thread is "Potential" wife. Don't why bringing flowers would make the suiter seem better, unless he is going to turn on the 'charm' and try to accidently give them to the mother in law implying he though she was the young girl he was going to see and so on.

It is depressing.

disagree. u HAVE TO smile.

no smiley guys = gucci no marry.

- be polite. not just to the girl but others with her ... assuming her mahram is present.
- bring a gift! preferably a white gold diamond pendant necklace :o
- if ur going somewhere to eat, do the little things like pulling out the chair and holding doors open
- we like gentlemen!
- dress neat and tidy. outfit doesnt hav to cost a million bucks.
- the more important stuff like questions and actually getting to know each other ask questions like ur interested to make a more friendly and warm environment cuz the first time can be uncomfortable and scary

To much stress

so..when the fam ask if u wud like sumthing to eat/drink...whats the right answer? :p

Erm it depends. With most Asian families, they offer food, you politely say no thanks and then they serve you with a whole banquet full anyway which you HAVE TO eat and compliment or else they'll take offense:p

I haven't read most of this thread but I'll tell everyone to just be calm and be themselves... you want to marry someone who'll accept you as you are and who you'd likewise accept as she is so putting on a front wont help anyone.

I can be, here's another one:

Brothers have to make sure and make it clear to the bride family, he (we call him Wajid as an example) is marrying (Call the father Mr.Khan) is marrying Mr.Khan daughter and not his whole family.

Ooooooh careful careful with that one. A lot of parents are very possessive and feel like you're one of these modern types who just live as a couple and make your spouse estranged from the whole close family. In fact, the 'Khan' family would feel much more reassured if you said they can call or visit if they miss their little girl too much:inlove:

This confirms what I've suspected for a while- that incompatible brothers and sisters seem to have no idea as to how to turn the rishta down. I think it's so d@mn rude for a bro to say "I'll call you" and for him to never call (yes that did happen to me). What sheer cowardice! It puts me in an awkward position because if someone tells me they know about another rishta elsewhere, I tend not to pursue it unless I have a firm idea as to whether there is potential in staying in touch with the current rishta or getting turned down straight in which case I know I'm in a position to explore other options staight away.

Some people have no idea of how to match people up for suitability:rolleyes:, they think "here's a single guy there's a single girl, now go get married", a friend of a friend of a friend suggested the rishta so it was bound to happen:(:o

I'd go with "smart cas", the sort of thing you'd wear when you're invited to a relatives house (ie not complete jeans style casual and not overly formal in a suit you'd wear to weddings either).

Akon'z a muslim

Akon and Islam

Akon was born in born in Senegal and although he lacks many qualities of the average American Muslim, he sometimes mentions his religion. In the song Senegal, he states: So what you know about how God comes first in our lives, everything that we do is for Allah ; So what you know about that Holy place called Touba where Prophets are born. Also, Akon is known for being polygamous, a trait allowed in Islamic Jurisprudence. He has 3 wives.

Akon tends to stay quiet about his Islamic and polygamous life because of requests from his record label so controversies will not start.
Fast Facts

Full Name: Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam
Born: Senegal October 14, 1981
Convert: No
Sect: Sunni
Most Famous For: Grammy Award Winning R&B Artist.
Biography

Akon grew up in Senegal before he and his family (including his father, jazz percussionist Mor Thiam) eventually settled in New Jersey. There he discovered hip-hop for the first time, as well as crime. He was eventually jailed, but he used the time to work on his musical ideas. Upon release, Akon began writing and recording tracks in a home studio. The tapes found their way to SRC/Universal, which eventually released Trouble, Akon's debut LP, in June 2004. The album was an interesting hybrid of Akon's raps and silky, West African-styled vocals with East Coast- and Southern-styled beats.

Seeing as you wrote 'grab her hand' before getting married off, there is a hadith that says it is better for a nail to be driven through the head (or hand) of a man then for him to touch the palm of a strange woman.

don't go overboard talking about yourself and what you do and know when it comes to religious duties and Deen.... it may look like your bragging or trying to hard to "sell" yourself..

example: i always fast twice a week and do every fajr in the masjid and never miss my sunnah prayers and always give zakat, and always keep my head down and give my mother money..etc...

don't over do it....sounds tacky...
