lol most of the posts have been friendly banter and just a few quality posts....maybe someone can summarise the entire tips and bro's can revise the entire thing before they approach the prospective families insha'Allaah :D

Ask her what she has learned about Tawhid. It is the most important aspect. If she does not know even the basics yet, and she is not a new muslim, well, there is a big problem reguarding her islam. And this problem needs to be fixed.

Well said Mashallah. It is worth asking what the sister's own views are about Islam and also what sort of Islamic qualities she looks for in a husband- these can be very subjective and speak volumes about the sort of person you're dealing with.

I know of a practising brother who went to see (what he thought was) a practising rishta and he happened to mention how hard it is to get a property these days and she casually said "Oh, just get a mortgage" and the brother was just :smack::outta:

Well i know it's not ok but what other choice do you have??? Can't pay cash for a house that costs like $500,000 right???? But i know what you mean, it's still not right.

I was lost at "going to see a potential wife for the first time" ... maybe it's a cultural thing ...

Don't buy a house for 500k then. And if you can actually afford a mansion for 500k..then you should not be wasteing your money on worldy things in the first place.

Is wearing a thawb appropriate when going? I looked through the thread. That is what I would prefer but I'm thinking most families would just find it strange. What color? I'm thinking black is not a good color for this type of occasion. (Not that any of this is relevant to me).

I also asked this, but not in as much detail lol... I'm thinking a plain thawb or one with minimalist details like a slight check or something... Maybe green also?

Lol mansions don't cost $500,000. Little shacks cost $500,000. Well, if your near the city like me.
