Aarrgh I cannot believe the nastiness of some people. Why do people have to swim half naked anyway!? I think this totally hilights the ignorance of some people.

This Ian Caldwell was blatantly put out because there was no opportunity to ogle this woman.

I don't honestly believe in an 'Islamic swimsuit' whether it consists of 5 pieces or 30.

Anyhow, this woman was treated horribly by some xenophobic fool and I can almost gurantee she isn't the only one.

We take our children abroad quite a lot and with them being so young, it's very unsafe for my husband alone to supervise both of them at a pool or beach. I find my Muhajjibah swimsuit (which is very loose all over) gives me the freedom to accompany my children alongside my husband, and paddle with them in the pool, without constantly having to worry about my clothes getting wet.
Even though we look for private beaches and secluded pools, there is never 100% privacy. I wouldnt feel comfortable rolling my trouser legs up to play with my kids, in case someone walked past then I would just be rushing to cover my legs instead of watching my kids. Even if we had a villa with a private pool I wouldnt be comfortable wearing a normal bathing suit in case somebody could see in.
When I first saw women wearing these here in Egypt, I was very sceptical. I watched women swimming in these for months before I realised they actually did cover everything and look comfortable at the same time, so I decided to try one for myself. I'm very glad I did :)

You mean whilst paddling around with your kids, right?

Does it actually nullify water's adhesion properties?

It is made of a light shiny fabric similar to that of wetsuits. It allows me to move freely in the water without clinging to me. When the swimming costume is wet it kind of hangs rather than clings. The dress worn over the costume is made of a similar fabric, but is lighter and stretchy. This piece seems to dry instantaneously, I really don't know what fabric it is. If that makes sense. lol.

what really shocks me is when normal semi strict covering muslims tell me they go swimming in normal swimsuits, sometimes with men.

but otherwise wouldn't dream of wearing shorts or strap tops when going out. just coz ur in water doesnt mean the rules dont apply

Yep, it's uncomfortable to swim in a mixed environment :o
You could maybe find a venue in your area that offers women's swimming sessions? Some places also have weekly Muslim women's swimming sessions :)

let's not forget it's sunnah for us to know how to swim, not just wade around in water, yet how many of us bother besides discussing swimsuit fashion...?

Very true. If I didn't have two young children who are unable to swim and in need of constant supervision I wouldnt be just wading around in water :D

wat a pointless costume, u could wear anything and it wouldnt matter how loose it is, wen u come out the water it will be clinging to you, so defeats the purpose really.

wear wat u want and go to a private area of the beach where u cant be seen! done!

i remember wen i was in Egypy it was so common to wear these 'Islamic' swimming costumes amongst the muslimahs in fact they have shops that sale these types of swim wear in every coulur size and God knows what else...

theres no logic behind them what so ever, the moment you step in2 the pool itll be as if your wearing a swimming costume anyway

lol, I'm not in MK, we're in Cairo studying Arabic for six months. Where I was first introduced to this swimming costume.

Until one tries it out first-hand, one would not know. The top dress is made of a quick-drying polyester mix and I have no idea what the all-in-one section and Hijab are made out of.
The costume definitely does not cling whilst in the water, rather 'floats' around you. The top dress clings momentarily upon walking out of the water, hence the reason I only 'wade around in water' if others are present. The legs are fine.

If the problem with any Islamic costume is that it clings once a woman steps out of the water, obviously this cannot be worn for SWIMMING in the presence of others.

There are also versions of this costume which are skin-tight on the legs being sold here. There are many different versions on the market. I have the Dandouna one, which I must say is excellent, Alhamdulillah :hidban:

lol...

Say I wore a Jilbaab like outfit made of the same material sis sunny-skies described; will I come out of the water as if I've never entered it in the first place? Water does have adhesive properties which I'm not sure anything can change.

Yes, of course it does. You don't come out of the water as if you have never entered it!! I have already said that when in the water there is no problem as it does not cling to you. When you come out of the water the top dress section clings momentarily but is very fast drying. Compared to other swimming costumes I have seen designed for the Muslim woman, this one is the best-designed, Alhamdulilah.

Hence me wading in the water to keep cool and not swimming :)
See my post about the private beaches and villas.

"It mustn't be attractive for strange men to look at a lady, how she is dressed. No"

Sheikh Mahmoud Al-Hanafi, Sunni Muslim leader

What about normal men, who just happen to look at a lady without scrutinizing her fashion choices?
