assalamu alaikum, this is my first post on here (apart from introducing myslf)

to proceed, does anyone have examples of the best names you can name your children? the meaning is emphasised a lot so inshaAllaah this thread can be used for suggesting names with the meanings.

I read somewhere that the names which Allah SWT loves are Abdullah (Servant of Allah) and Abdur-Rahmaan (Servant of the Compassionate?).
Names of prophets/sahaabas etc are some of the best names, and they should have good meanings to benefit the child inshAllah :)

There are so many names to choose from and so many beautiful meanings! :)

I think in this day and age that we live in, identity for a child is extremely important; to know who they are, what they aspire to be, how they wish to conduct themselves as a Muslim, a person, as a human being.

Whatever you choose to name your child, remember that this is the name they will be called with on the Day of Judgement, so ensure it has good meaning and is pleasing to Allah (swt). Your child holds a right over you that you give it a good name so you must fulfil this right to them. (amongst other rights)

Prior to us having our firt child, we went through the 'list of name' stage that all new parents usually do ;) We did not know of the gender so we drew up a shortlist of 5 boys and 5 girls names from which we decided we would choose once the baby was born.

However (and I truly believe this) that you cannot name a child just anything, every child is suited to a name and whatever that name is, will affect their personality and their chracter. They will consciously or subconsciously, during their lifetime, begin to show traits in their character, depending on what their name is. I have seen many examples of this in the peope around me and subhanallah it is an amazing thing!

So anyhoo, once our gorgeous little girl was born, we looked at our list of names and realised that not a single one seemed to sound right with her, despite our long winded efforts of shortlisting lol :p

We then happened to come across a story of a lady, a companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I think we may have even passed by it during out shortlisting procdure, but at that moment in time we read her story and it jumped out at us. this was the name we had been looking for! This was the character we wanted out daughter to emulate! The traits we wished for her to show as a Muslim! The role model we wanted her to grow up and look up to! There was no doubt in either my or my husbands mind, it was like as soon as we read it, we were 100% convinced. No discussion. :inlove:

Oh and another thing. Whatever you name your child please ensure you know the correct pronounciation of it and that you always pronounce it correctly and ensure others do to! So many sad insatnces where beautiful names are ruined!

Examples are Sameena, which should be Thameena unless you want to be calling your daughter fat! Or Asif which should be Asif with an 3ayn...I think the former means shut up or something?

Oops I meant sorry! Dunno where I got shut up from! :p

But why would you name your child sorry?' Would be pretty depressing to be called 'sorry' all day long!
