Last year one of my aunts passed away but she did not perform hajj although it was fard on her.

Now, my cousin is planning to send someone else to hajj on behalf of my aunt. He asked some imams about it but so far got different opinions. Some are saying that, because my aunt is no more alive, no one else can perform the hajj on her behalf.

Do any of you know anything about this ? Is there any rulings about it according to the quran or hadith?

Firstly, Ina lillahi wa ina ilayhi ragi3oon. I'm sorry for your lose.

From what I know, yes he can send someone on to perfom Hajj on behalf of your aunt. But the money/expenses of the Hajj has to be from her money or your cousin's. The one thing that you have to remember is that if you're going to make a sacrifice (whether it's for Hajj+Umrah or compensation for some mistake in the hajj) has to be done in her name.

I have never heard of anyone saying that you cannot perform hajj on behalf of a deceased person.
