If you did istikhara (prayer asking for guidance) and then made a decision which later on turned out to be 'wrong' then what does that mean?
like say for example you did istikhara about accepting a job and it was positive so u acepted a job and it turned out to be a awful job?
or you did istikhara about moving and it was positive and then u moved and hated it?
or you did istikhara about marriage proposal and it was positive so u got married and it ended in divorce?
does it mean that you must have misinterpretated ur istikhara? or that Allah wanted you to go through that experience?

O Allaah, I seek Your guidance [in making a choice] by virtue of Your knowledge, and I seek ability by virtue of Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty. You have power, I have none. And You know, I know not. You are the Knower of hidden things. O Allaah, if in Your knowledge, this matter (then it should be mentioned by name) is good for me both in this world and in the Hereafter (or: in my religion, my livelihood and my affairs), then ordain it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if in Your knowledge it is bad for me and for my religion, my livelihood and my affairs (or: for me both in this world and the next), then turn me away from it, [and turn it away from me], and ordain for me the good wherever it may be and make me pleased with it.
thats what it means so i guess whatever it is will inshaAllah be good for ur hereafter...

Istikharah is literally a dua in which you are asking Allah to bring closer to you the thing you are intending to do if it is beneficial for your deen and iman, and to take it away from you if it isnt.
From this I understand that whatever Allah has planned for you will be beneficial for your deen and iman Insha allah. It may be that a failed marriage or job may bring you closer to Allah, and be more beneficial for your iman than you realise.
Remember, we all learn from our mistakes, and Allah is the best of planners. We cannot stop what He has ordained for us :)

so when people do istikhara they should be aware that even if it is positive , later on it might turn out to be a difficult situation? beacuse i think some folks think by doing istikhara they are guaranteed that everything will be rosy?
heaven, i know why your coming from i found it very difficult reconcile outcomes with the signs ive had.
Say i do istikhara about a job
appply for the job
get an interview
i get the job
istikahara was positve becasue you followed a positive course of events that made your path to the promlem easy. Allah guided you.
Now when you get to the job, you find its the biggest inner city rubbish special measures dump of a school ever and you really find it difficult- it doesnt mean you istikhara was negative since your istikarah in the first place was asking whether or not you should go for the job.
sis when we experience taqleef, as average humans beings we find it difficult capacity to accept taqleef because our minds cannot grasp the hekmaa behind it. our minds cannot understand the betterment this taqleef witll have for us and how it wil nourish us.
Think about the taqleef youve had in your life, think about Allah attention on you and how it helped you gro into the muslimah you are now.
On a personal level when i think about misery in th epast i thank allah that i was given that oppurtunity to erase sins and seriouslym this dunyah is so short so when we do bear taqleef may allah in his infinite beatuty, wisodm and might grant us the ability to do sabr of sahabah proportions and shukr of his mercies
may you always :D sis
Ihraab- chip in, youve said some good stuff about istikhaara in the shaadi forum beofre bro :coolbro:
Istikhara is a means of asking Allah swt to guide you towards sumthing if it happens to be beneficial for you. Say u applied 4 the job got it and it happend to be "awful" well, Allah swt willed that to happen, and in sumway it was better for you. Istaikhara doesnt mean that everything will be picture perfect, it just means that whatever may happen will be in ur best interest. Or so i think, correct me if i worng! :outta:

Yep, it's a common misconception that if you do Istikharah for something and your Istikharah comes out 'positive' then everything will be a just peachy. Not always so.
Some people have good dreams so they think they have had a 'positive' Istikharah, so what would this mean in the case of a person who doesnt have dreams?
From what I understand you make a decision to do something, then do Istikharah for it. Insha allah you have now put the matter in Allah's hands and you must place your trust in Him. Whatever happens is Qadr, written for you and destined to happen.
so when people do istikhara they should be aware that even if it is positive , later on it might turn out to be a difficult situation? beacuse i think some folks think by doing istikhara they are guaranteed that everything will be rosy?

Istikara just means that u pray and ask Allah ta ala as it says above, to help u accept his decree, no one has knowledge of the unseen or the future, not in a dream, not in a wakeful state, only Allah ta ala has knowledge of the unseen, we ask Allah ta ala to help us accept his decree for us in istikara thats it, there is no sudden knowledge that comes to a person who has made istikara whereby they suddenly know having made it that the future is going to be rosy because they had "a dream" or "a feeling" or something else.
Istikara isnt a form of "fortune telling" ( for want of a better word) but its common that many people think of it as a window to the future and think having made istikara that they know what the future will hold, and because they saw some "sign" in a dream that their marriage or whatever will be great or bad or whatever...because knowledge of the unseen, is only with Allah subhanna wa ta ala, istikara is a duaa, and the knowledge of the future and what it may hold is only with Allah ta ala.

the prophet (saw) said two people will never be misguided those that take mashwara (council from others) and those who do istikhara...
now islamically when we look at decisions we always look to two things the present and the akhira... the istikhara might show you a way which is positive for you even if it looks horrible in the dunya, it may be that allah *swt* is testing you because he wants to reward you, it maybe that something happens that makes the experience better for you or more rewarding...
take for example a sister she does istikhara about marriage and she feels it is positive she marrys the brother... he turns out to be a loser so they end up divorcing after a while, but she has a son from that marriage, who grows up to be pious and god fearing and through him she attains jannah, now at the end of the day yeah the marriage might have been rubbish but what she gained was far greater then what she lost...
at the end of the day allah (swt) will guide you to that which is best for you even if it may seem temporarily that it was the wrong decision on your behalf... just maintain the duahs and ask allah (swT) for the best in this life and the best in the akhira....
and make duahs for me aswell *outta*
yes and for everyone else aswell *rolleyes*
