Chapter: the clarification that the isnaad is from The religion, and narration is only upon the Trustworthy, and that the criticism of narrators Due to what is found in them is permissible,Rather it is obligatory, and that it is not from The impermissible backbiting, rather it is from the Defense of the noble islamic religion:

Muhammad Ibn ’Abdullaah Ibn Quhzadh from the people of Marw narrated to me he said: I heard ’Abdaan Ibn ’Uthmaan say: I heard ’Abdullaah Ibnul-Mubaarak say, “The isnaad with me is from the Religion. If not for isnaad whoever pleased could say whatever he pleased.”

And Muhammad Ibn ’Abdullaah said: al-’Abbaas Ibn Abee Riznah narrated to me he said: I heard ’Abdullaah say, “Between us and the people is the isnaad.”

And Muhammad said: I heard ’Alee Ibn Shaqeeq say: I heard ’Abdullaah Ibnul-Mubaarak say, “Leave the hadeeth of ’Amr Ibn Thaabit for certainly he used to insult the Salaf.”

Aboo Bakr Ibn Abee Shaybah narrated to us that Ghundar narrated on Shu’bah: And Muhammad Ibnul-Muthannaa and Ibn Bishr both said: that Muhammad Ibn Ja’far that Shu’bah narrated on Masoor on Rabee’ Ibn Hiraash that he heard ’Alee – radiyallaahu ’anhu - giving the sermon, he said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “Do not lie on me, for certainly whoever lies on me will enter the Fire.” (Preface to Saheeh Muslim)

Note that in this hadeeth the underlined text is sanad i.e the chain of narrators.

for a hadeeth to be saheeh i.e sound, all the narrators should have trustworthy memory, truthful in his narrating of hadeeth, continous sanad i.e each narrator should have met the person from whom he is narrating, the hadeeth should be free from any irregularities (i.e. in the text) or defects (i.e. in the isnad).

it is evident from what ibn mubarak rahimahu Allah said that If not for isnaad whoever pleased could say whatever he pleased.

he is a prominent figure among Salaf as Saliheen (Pious Predecessors). he was a master of hadeeth, a reknowned scholar.

we should remember that our Lord the exalted One told us that:
This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islâm as your religion. (Surah al-Maa'idah : ayah 3)
