We are all in mid-life.

Mawlana mentioned in a bayaan (speech) that every human has 5 stages of life.

1. First Stage: Aalam e Arwaah

The World of Souls. When Sayyidina Abba Adam alayhis salaam was created the souls of ALL were extracted from Him. Now at stages these souls are released into this world. Before we came into this world we already existed in the world of souls. That was our first life.

2. Second Stage: Mothers Womb

Then our souls were connected with our bodies in the world of our mother's womb. Quite literally our mothers were our world. It was in that world that the connection between our body and our souls was established in preparation for this world.

3. Third Stage: This World

We are now in our mid-life. This is the middle age and this is the one that counts. Rahmaan Ta'ala sent us here to gain His Pleasure, to worship Him and to earn our akhirah. Many of us - infact probably all of us - labour under the delusion that middle-age is when you hit 40ish - truth is the moment we were born into this world we enterred middle-age. Its time now for us to plant the seeds for our following two stages because as we all know - what we do here is going to bear fruit in the following stages. Here our job is only to prepare our provision for the next two stages.

In a hadeeth Hadrat Nabi :saw: stated to the effect that the majority of people in this Ummah will pass away between the age of 60 and 70. Most of us here are in our 20s. Those of us who practice in our own little ways think that when our heads turn white and our bodies are tired then we will strive in our ibaadah - it seems we want to make the most of our youth. Its halal for us to enjoy ourselves so why shouldnt we? Its halal for us to wear nice clothes and to drive flashy cars and to have our relaxation - so why shudnt we? Thats how we think but the people of ALLAH always have this thought in their minds that the time for relaxation is later, not now.

Forget about appearance, forget about the nice detached house in a leafy suburb, forget abt the honda civic type R or the new Golf - distractions, distractions, distractions. On a probability basis we have around 50 years of life left. Control and struggle and sacrifice for 50 years in lieu of an eternity of peace. :allah: :allah: . What is 50 years of minor difficulty in return for an eternity of bliss - nothing!!

May ALLAH Ta'ala grant us the ability to secure our akhirah in the here and now and grant us ability to realise this world for what she is and to keep us safe from her charms and invitations - ameen

4. Fourth Stage: Aalam e Barzakh

The world of the grave. What we earnt in our third stage will directly influence our condition in this world. Either we have stored up our comforts for the grave or we have left it desolate. What a fool we will feel if when we enter Barzakh we find that we have nothing there except darkness and torment - wont be feeling so cool and so clever when we stripped of our looks and wealth and health and are crushed by our sins.

5. Fifth Stage: Jannah or Jahannam

The Garden or the Pit of Hell. Then we spend an eternity in either.
