i dnt think ur supposed to cut ur own hair as u will still be in the state of ihram so u will have to get someone who has already had their hair cut to cut urs. and yes its only from a strand of hair... hope that helps.

gather your hair and then roll the end bit around your index finger then cut, just make sure you dont cut it as ajnabee qoute

No, you can cut your own hair - you can't cut the hair of other people whilst you are in ihram though.

itz not 1 strand,u got to make sure all strands are cut,just how skelly explained,u gather all ur hair an roll,then cut,makin sure all strands are cut,if ur hair isnt cut straight(its not level properly),then rap all ur hair around ur finger 2/3 times & then cut it.
also,if ur hair is layerd/feathered,u have to cut it from evrywhere (all the difrent lenghts,u cnt just cut it from the bottom.
