[UQP] Surah Waqiah ~ The Event

[Abu Muslimah]

In the name of Allah, the All Peaceful, the Protector

Surah Waqiah, the surah of the 3 groups; those on the left, those on the right and the sabiqoon. Who are the sabiqoon? You will find out insha'Allah

Before we begin, we should seek refuge in shaitaan the outcast and purify our intentions to be solely for Allah SWT.

2 or 3 ayaats will be posted everday [maybe 3 depending on length]. No other posts in here, just the 2/3 ayaats. The 2/3 ayaats will be posted, so the 2/3 ayaats in arabic, the english tranlisterated below and then once again, the english translated below that and, and the 2 ayaats broken up from 2 different qaris for you to follow [put this on your MP3 player and listen over and over]

Oh yea, forgot the mention the new addition..a arabic word from each ayah will be highlighted in ahmar and the corresponding word in english highlighted in red aswell. This is for 2 reasons; to try to teach even a little bit of arabic and also, if you know the meaning of the keywords in the ayah, its easier to memorise the ayah.

Bismillahi ar-rahmanir-raheem
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ

Idhā Waqa`ati Al-Wāqi`ah
When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls.

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ

Laysa Liwaq`atihā Kādhibah
And there can be no denying of its befalling.
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ

Khāfiđatun Rāfi`ah
It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt;

إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا

'Idhā Rujjati Al-'Arđu Rajjā
When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake.

وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا

Wa Bussati Al-Jibālu Bassāan
And the mountains will be powdered to dust.

فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُّنبَثًّا

Fakānat Habā'an Munbaththā
So that they will become floating dust particles.

Subhan'Allah the mountains, them huge things being bought to dust..imagine that..

[Abu Muslimah]

وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً


Wa Kuntum 'Azwājāan Thalāthahan
And you will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups)..

فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ


Fa'aşĥābu Al-Maymanati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi
So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand?

وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ


Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi
And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand?

So..now we are onto the 3 groups, much of which this surah is based upon..those of the right, those of the left..and the sabiqoon..

I thought of an idea, seeing as these are usually posted around fajr UK time, maybe after you've prayed fajr, you can insha'Allah pick up the mushaf, and learn the 3 ayaats, and then you got practically the whole day to revise and learn them properly..*smiles*

[Abu Muslimah]

وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ


Wa As-Sābiqūna As-Sābiqūn
And those foremost (in performing righteous deeds) will be foremost (in Paradise).

أُوْلَئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ

Ūlā'ika Al-Muqarrabūn
These will be those nearest to Allah.


فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ


Fī Jannāti An-Na`īm
In the Gardens of delight (Paradise).

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ


Thullatun Mina Al-'Awwalīn
A multitude of those from the first (generations)

وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ


Wa Qalīlun Mina Al-'Ākhirīn
And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later (generations)


عَلَى سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ

`Alá Sururin Mawđūnah
(They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones

Muttaki'īna `Alayhā Mutaqābilīn
Reclining thereon, face to face.

يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ


Yaţūfu `Alayhim Wildānun Mukhalladūn
They will be served by immortal boys,

بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ


Bi'akwābin Wa 'Abārīqa Wa Ka'sin Min Ma`īn
With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine,

Lā Yuşadda`ūna `Anhā Wa Lā Yunzifūn
Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication.

وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ


Wa Fākihatin Mimmā Yatakhayyarūn
And fruit; that they may choose.

وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

Wa Laĥmi Ţayrin Mimmā Yashtahūn
And the flesh of fowls that they desire.

Ka'amthāli Al-Lu'ulu'ui Al-Maknūni
Like unto preserved pearls.

جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Ya`malūna
A reward for what they used to do.

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا


Lā Yasma`ūna Fīhā Laghwan Wa Lā Ta'thīmāa
No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.).

إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا


'Illā Qīlāan Salāmāan Salāmāa
But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace) !

وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ


Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīni Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīn
And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand?.

Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off,

Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation.

And made them virgins.

(That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good,



إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ


'Innahum Kānū Qabla Dhālika Mutrafīn
Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury,

وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنثِ الْعَظِيمِ

Wa Kānū Yuşirrūna `Alá Al-Ĥinthi Al-`Ažīm
And were persisting in great sin



وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ


Wa Kānū Yaqūlūna 'A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamab`ūthūn
And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected?



أَوَ آبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ
'Awa 'Ābā'uunā Al-'Awwalūn
"And also our forefathers?"

Even though ayah 47 is relatively long compared to what we've learnt so far in this surah, it comes up in the Quran so many times we should be familiar with it insha'Allah *smiles*

قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ


Qul 'Inna Al-'Awwalīna Wa Al-'Ākhirīn
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "verily, those of old, and those of later times.

لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ


Lamajmū`ūna 'Ilá Mīqāti Yawmin Ma`lūm
"All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day.



ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ


Thumma 'Innakum 'Ayyuhā Ađ-Đāllūna Al-Mukadhdhibūn
"Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)!

Famāli'ūna Minhā Al-Buţūn
"Then you will fill your bellies therewith,



فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ



Fashāribūna `Alayhi Mina Al-Ĥamīm
"And drink boiling water on top of it,

Fashāribūna Shurba Al-Hīm
"So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!"

هَذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ


Hādhā Nuzuluhum Yawma Ad-Dīn
That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense!



نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ


Naĥnu Khalaqnākum Falawlā Tuşaddiqūn
We created you, then why do you believe not?

أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ


Afara'aytum Mā Tumnūn
Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit.



أَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ


'A'antum Takhluqūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Al-Khāliqūn
Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator?


نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ


Naĥnu Qaddarnā Baynakumu Al-Mawta Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīn
We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable,

Allah is indeed the Greatest..

[Abu Muslimah]

عَلَى أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ


`Alá 'An Nubaddila 'Amthālakum Wa Nunshi'akum Fī Mā Lā Ta`lamūn
To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not.



وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُولَى فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Wa Laqad `Alimtumu An-Nash'ata Al-'Ūlá Falawlā Tadhkkarūn
And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed?




أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ


'Afara'aytum Mā Taĥruthūn
Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground.

subhan'Allah, these rhetorical questions Allah SWT asks are amazing..

[Abu Muslimah]

أَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ


'A'antum Tazra`ūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Az-Zāri`ūn
Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower?



لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ

Law Nashā'u Laja`alnāhu Ĥuţāmāan Fažalaltum Tafakkahūn
Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment).




إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ


'Innā Lamughramūn
(Saying): "We are indeed Mughramoon (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! (See Tafsir Al-Qurtubee, Vol. 17, Page 219)

Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmūn
"Nay, but we are deprived!"



أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ

'Afara'aytumu Al-Mā'a Al-Ladhī Tashrabūn
Tell Me! The water that you drink.




أَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنزِلُونَ

'A'antum 'Anzaltumūhu Mina Al-Muzni 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munzilūn
Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down?

لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ

Law Nashā'u Ja`alnāhu 'Ujājāan Falawlā Tashkurūn
If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)?



أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ

'Afara'aytumu An-Nāra Allatī Tūrūn
Tell Me! The fire which you kindle,




أَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنشِئُونَ

'A'antum 'Ansha'tum Shajaratahā 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munshi'ūn
Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower?

Naĥnu Ja`alnāhā Tadhkiratan Wa Matā`āan Lilmuqwīn
We have made it a Reminder ; and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world).



فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ


Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīm
Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.




فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ


Falā 'Uqsimu Bimawāqi`i An-Nujūm
So I swear by Mawaqi (setting or the mansions, etc.) of the stars (they traverse).

Wa 'Innahu Laqasamun Law Ta`lamūna `Ažīm
And verily, that is indeed a great oath, if you but know.



إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ


'Innahu Laqur'ānun Karīm
That (this) is indeed an honourable recital (the Noble Quran).




فِي كِتَابٍ مَّكْنُونٍ


Fī Kitābin Maknūn
In a Book well-guarded (with Allah in the heaven i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfooz).

La yamassuhu illa almutahharoon
Which (that Book with Allah) none can touch but the purified (i.e. the angels).



تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Tanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameen
A Revelation (this Quran) from the Lord of the Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists).



أَفَبِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ

Afabihatha alhadeethi antum mudhinoon
Is it such a talk (this Quran) that you deny?

And apologies in advance about the arabic, if it doesnt come out properly, it SHOULD do but its not joined on the comp. وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ

WatajAAaloona rizqakum annakum tukaththiboon
And instead (of thanking Allah) for the provision He gives you, on the contrary, you deny Him (by disbelief)!

فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ

Falawla itha balaghati alhulqoom
Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat?

وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ

Waantum heena-ithin tanthuroona
And you at the moment are looking on,

Wanahnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum walakinla tubsiroon
But We (i.e. Our angels who take the soul) are nearer to him than you, but you see not, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol.27, Page 209]

فَلَوْلَا إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ

Falawla in kuntum ghayra madeeneen
Then why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment, etc.)

تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

TarjiAAoonaha in kuntum sadiqeen
Bring back the soul (to its body), if you are truthful?

Then, if he (the dying person) be of the Muqarrabun (those brought near to Allah),

فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ

Farawhun warayhanun wajannatunaAAeem
(There is for him) rest and provision, and a Garden of delights (Paradise).

وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ

Waamma in kana min as-habialyameen
And if he (the dying person) be of those on the Right Hand,

Then there is safety and peace (from the Punishment of Allah) for (you as you are from) those on the Right Hand.

وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ

Waamma in kana mina almukaththibeenaaddalleen
But if he (the dying person) be of the denying (of the Resurrection), the erring (away from the Right Path of Islamic Monotheism),

فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ

Fanuzulun min hameem
Then for him is entertainment with boiling water.

Verily, this! This is an absolute Truth with certainty.

Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīmi
So glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.
