View Full Version : Educational Books/Videos etc for children
Aslaam alaikum everyone,
i though we could use this thread to tell each other (or review) about books or videos (or watever learning tool) that are educational for our children, or something u can maybe recommend?
My lil one has learnt so much about islam thru the "Quran Stories for little hearts", learnt all about the Prophets and what happened to them while bringing the message to people .
Heres a selection.

ooohh i saw these at GPU! and i was tempted by the "Do not disturb" signs as well ;)
IMHO the best educational thing that a parent can do for a child is to instill in them a love of reading. Videos make their minds lazy where reading gives them the gift of being able to imagine the story with their own images

reading is a VERY powerful learning tool, especially if children are started at a young age.
Its amazing the things they will pick up even when u are reading to them , although they might be looking around ,it automatically sinks in inshallah if reading is the only activity going on at that time, so get those Stories of the Prophets and Stories of the Companions out :up:
Thankyou you for the book sites....... Excellent, i was so pleased with what they have in store.... books for children, can't wait to order and read to my little girl.... Insha'Allah she will learn so much from them.

I am in love with the Usborne Touchy Feely books :D They are fantastic for little fingers and minds and encourage your child to explore the story using touch. I have been reading 'That's not my dinosaur' to my baby since she was 5 months or so, and she loves to turn the pages and feel the different textures!!
I also recently bought Dear Zoo for her lol, she loves lifting the flaps to see the hidden animals. These books are great because they are written in a simple fashion which is easy for the child to follow and understand, and promote hand-eye coordiation too!

Toys;
This was the first toy I bought my lil one. Its called a Whoozit by Manhattan toys. All their toys are made using different textures, sounds and colours to appeal to your childs senses. Crinkly bits, jingly bits, colours and extures, squeeky nose and a little mirror! The black and white and particularly appealing to young children as they see these colours better and you will notice they love this bit better than the rest lol! Its still one of her fave toys, and has been through the wash many a time and is still like new! Worth buying as a prezzie for any new babies :D
Have a read of the reviews!

doesnt looklike they show u excatly what they are sending u, as in picture wise? or let u glimpse some examples?
i came across the following book and i am so totally impressed the way its been done, its not a pop-up book but the way its been presented is awesome, in the book, on each page they talk about what each part of the human body does, heres the clincher for the kids, in the middle of the book, is a transparent picutre of a human body and his body parts (the insides), each time u turn the page, somehow the part that the page will talk about is the part that is in the middle, its a 3dimensional look inside the human body .....i cant explain , you have to see it but i would defo recommend it for kids :up:
