It was reported from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn al-Saamit that Abu Dharr said: “The Messenger of Allaah :saw: (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

‘If any one of you stands up to pray, then he has a sutrah [an item placed in front of a praying person as a “screen”] if he has something the height of the back of a saddle in front of him. If he does not have something the height of the back of a saddle in front of him, then his prayer is invalidated if a donkey or a woman or a black dog passes in front of him.’”

The height of the back of a saddle is one cubit or 2/3 of a cubit

The hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (487) and Muslim (505) from Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri which says

“If any one of you is praying, he should not let anyone pass in front of him. Let him push him away as much as he can, and if he insists then let him fight him, for he is nothing but a shaytaan (devil)”

He also used to say: If the person who passed in front of someone praying knew (the sin) on him, it would be better for him to wait forty than to pass in front. (Abu an-Nadr said, "I do not remember exactly whether he said forty days, months or years."). [Bukhari and Muslim]

so so so so so so so so so many people cross infront of people when u go to masjid al haram... and i always try and make sure i have a sutra infront of me... but sometimes people just rush outta nowhere and pass infront of u and it gets me proper grrrrrrr but what are u menta do??

like i remember last time i went... sometimes id havta wait til people finished the whole prayer just so i could cross to where i needed to get to, but when ur the only one waitin and everyone looks at u weird and carries on walkin infronta em its like :torture::torture::torture::torture:

In the book "The prophet's (saw) prayer described" it states that whenever you pray you must pray with a sutrah, if you had a sutrah in front of you, there wouldnt be this problem bithni'Allah tala, but we do come across many people, regardless if you have a sutrah placed infront of you, they will still try and come between you and your sutrah, in that case you put your hand out to prevent them from breaking your salaat.

And Allah tala knows best

...when ur the only one waitin and everyone looks at u weird and carries on walkin infronta em its like :torture::torture::torture::torture:

Dont worry about other people looking at you.. Worry about Allah looking at you..
And as for those people who walk infront of the praying people purposely.. they are shayateen...

May Allah guide and forgive them...

its just not near the kabah even at the back when the namaz starts you get people walking all the way from one end to another, but if you hold your hand in front of you it does stop people crossing your path:o

The Ulama say that in a place of mataf(where tawaaf is performed) people may pass in front of you on the condition that they do not walk directly on the area where you will make sujood.

In normal circumstances, the Mullah Ali Qari(rahimullah) mention that a person can not walk in front a person that is praying, if the one who is praying can see that person walk by. So for example, one who is praying should have his head down and even then if he can see the feet of the person walk in front, it is sinful for the person who walks by. The general rule of thumb is if you must walk in front of someone who is praying, you should do so 2 or 3 saff in front of them.

Maybe take an umbrella (or a road block) with you and use that innit?

hmmm...very common thing...I always have to face this problem when I'm at mosque

However, so far I've seen, many times its the fault of the person who is praying. They come from nowhere, don't look around, just stand anywhere they feel (even in front of the doors or any other inconvenient spaces!), and start their salat straignt away. It doesn't make sense at all !

Also, after the jummah jamat, some people start salat straight away even if he sees that people are passing by in front of him...:smack:
