Assalamu Alaikum brothers and sisters in Islam, need some ideas for gifts for new parents... It can't be something expensive though so that's what makes it hard to look for something, i dunno what to get... Any ideas?

akhi i always find the childrens books "Quran stories for Little Hearts" make great childrens gifts, u can get them from islamic book shops in gift boxes or order from simplyislam
get one of those cuute baby books where they can record the details about their child's first word, step, etc.
it'll be something really great to look back on when the kids are older.
its cool especially if its the couple's first child.
they can kind of make it like a scrapbook with pictures to go with each entry :inlove:

yep and then wen the kids get old and go to college and stuff the parents will be sidebyside standing in their room wiping away tears and looking through the book and remebering everything.
its one of those commercial moments :p
how about a pram ? if it's the first child

:jkk: for the suggestions, i think clothes, Islamic books and the book to record stuff sounds more down my street than a pram/ stroller as that's a bit pricey for me *smiles*
Ok :jkk: again for all the suggestions!
If it is the first one, I will suggest you a portative bed if they don't have it....So when ever they go somewhere they can bring it easily.... I got one at my 3rd one and find it really useful... There is also a rocking chair... Can help when the baby cry all night and you have to keep moving the baby ... specially if the baby has a colic...
If it is not the first one , probly they have already most of the things they need... buy them a diapers , 1 bag of each size... It can look stupid to some people but diapers is really costly and to have some already in advance help family to save money for the kids...

inshallah
may allah swt bless u with a rightoues, pious and healthy baby ameen
when a new baby is born, I don't know about in the Islamic world, but over here everyone buys stuff for the baby. Chances are, if there is a lot of family, that they already have everything that they need for the baby so how about buying something for the mom. Give her a coupon for a visit to a dayspa for a pedicure and foot massage or some bubble bath or something like that

how about you make up a few "free babysitting" coupons and put them in a card. tell the parents they can cash them in for a night at the movies or out to dinner or something...;)
OR..get a basket and fill it up with stuff for the parents, like a plastic checkered picnic tablecloth, cheese and crackers, some non alcoholic grape juice that comes in those fancy looking wine bottles, and maybe a few candles. all these items are cheap and it will give the parents an opportunity to spend some alone time together (while your babysitting...;) )
Teoma and Tahiyah are both right.
Now's a great time to spend some $$$s on mom & dad.
Buy them some very nice foot creams or soaps.
Or, if you're able, and if the halal restaurants in your area do this sort of thing, buy them some gift certificates for halal take-out meals.
Or, maybe even a better idea, see if a laundry in your area offers gift certificates. Or just give the parents a nice card saying, "I'll do your laundry for three weeks" or something like that.

I dont think laundry.... most laundrettes are kind of gross and dirty looking, well round here neway.... mayb am a weirdo but i dnt like anyyyone touching my laundry, i think a certain amount of sisters are control freaks in these things like me..
the other ideas really nice though bt jst 2 say i dnt recommend ppl do the laundry thing unless u kno for a fact they dnt mind it
It's the thought that counts, so why not give them money instead so they can get whatever they want. I think that is VERY thoughtful.
Whatever you do don't give a gift voucher as they are too restrictive.

One of the problem in this case... Most of new parents don't feel to let the baby to someone else specially at the first one... Often they do prefer to take them to grand-parents or stay home or take it with them... Specially the new mother are affraid to been separate of them and don't forgot the breasfeeding part... Many baby never even use bottle... How the baby will be feed ? LOL ...
Te'oma , no you are not the only one... I know lot of big family...And even if it is lot of work I will says then there is nothing more beautiful (for me at least) to see my kids growing... I was having choice between having big family or continue my career and 4 years ago I took the decision to stay home and take care of my family full time...
A lot depends on your budget akhi. Tell us how much you're willing to spend cos' that would make it easier to suggest something. I think for a baby it's a nice idea to get something for bathtime (cos' everyone has already bought clothes and toys). Get a nice plastic box (tescos do these nice little colourful ones or even colourful mini bins which are quite cute) and fill it up with bottles of baby powder, baby shampoo, baby oil, baby shower gel etc.
Btw, I think Mothercare already do boxes like this but check their prices. If they're brand is quite pricey (as their products often are), then you may as well compile one of your own but if it's good value, then it's a nice gift idea.

its a travel cot :p
i think they sell them in argos
you can use them till they're about 1.5 yrs..after that they can just jump out
i think as well as getting something 'practical' for the parents..its nice to get them something personal/something nonbaby related
for the mum you could get her some pampering stuff...like a lavender gift set so help her relax, and for the dad... a hooveR? :p
